Hidden Pubs of London

Join us for a 3hr historical stumble down the "street of shame". Starting in the shadow of the iconic St.Paul's cathedral, we explore the tiny backstreets and rambling courtyards the ancient City of London is famous for. We follow in the drunken footsteps of literary greats including Dickens, Shakespeare, Pepys & Johnson whilst pausing for a drink in at least 4 of the most historic pubs dating as far back as the 1500's. From discovering art nouveau gems to glamorous Victorian gin palaces we enjoy a variety of pub styles and breweries along the way. It's not a prescriptive tour, so you choose & pay for your drinks along the way. We're here to offer recommendations, and you can often "sip before you sup" with a few tasters on request from the bars along the way. This allows you to indulge as much or as little as you desire! Non-drinkers can soak up the history, and wine & gin-lovers are also well catered for. We usually finish up on the edge of Covent Garden perfect for theatre-land, restaurants and of course more pubs! Other note: - Guests are recommended to be over 18 years of age to enjoy the walk at its best. Anyone lucky enough to look under 25 years of age should bring photo ID - Group sizes of up to 14 participants - Alfie the dog is not always in attendance. Sorry! N.B. I’m an athlete, photographer, and lifelong Londoner, ready to guide you on a 5K run with stops along the way and top tips for capturing the city on your smartphone. • We’ll set off on our five-kilometer run along the stunning South Bank, starting at the iconic London Eye. • As we jog east, we’ll pass the Royal Festival Hall, the city’s main concert venue, and see Gabriel’s Wharf, a popular spot for shopping and dining. • We’ll pause at the National Theatre to admire its architecture and snap photos while I share photo tips. • Then, we’ll cross the Millennium Bridge for breathtaking views of St. Paul’s Cathedral and check out the exterior of Tate Modern. Our final stop will be the world-renowned Shakespeare’s Globe, where we’ll unwind with relaxing riverside views. Retired Royal Guard Iconic London Walk

I invite you to join me to see Royal palaces and other iconic royal sites, hear personal stories of my experiences with members of the Royal Family and even get to see a piece of Prince William's and Kate's wedding cake! We will start at Trafalgar Square and hear about its history and then move on to see the pomp and pageantry of the Changing of the King's Life Guard. We then walk along The Mall to St James' Palace and Clarence House where I will tell you tales of Princes William and Harry the night before William's wedding. Next is a short walk to Buckingham Palace where you will have more opportunities to take photos and hear stories of the Royal household. We then walk into picturesque St James' Park where there is a chance to pause (kiosk available for drinks) and look at gifts presented to me by members of the Royal family. On the way to Parliament Square I will tell you all about the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament and Big Ben). The final part of the walk takes us along Whitehall, past Downing Street (home of the Prime Minister) and then to the spot where King Charles 1st was executed. We will finish back at Trafalgar Square. Other things to note: If on the 2pm walk we will see a shortened Guard change at 4pm. We will have an opportunity on the way for a short stop for you to buy drinks and visit a toilet.

Karl Marx’s London: guided walking tour with a historian

Take a tour through the streets of Soho, the bustling central London district which in the 1850s was home to thousands of radical political exiles - including the young German philosopher Karl Marx. Guided by Dr Thomas Jones, an expert and scholar in refugee history, you’ll see the sites that shaped the lives of Marx and his growing family as they struggled to establish themselves in an unfamiliar country where they would spend the rest of their lives. We’ll assemble in Leicester Square, where in 1849 the Marxes joined hundreds of refugees escaping the collapse of Europe’s 1848 revolutions and found shelter at the nearby German Hotel. We’ll go on to visit the Marx residences at Dean Street, where they contended with poverty and disease as they navigated the perils of life in mid-Victorian London. We’ll see the headquarters the Communist League and the International Working Men’s Association, radical societies that Marx joined and for which he produced some of his most famous writing, including the Communist Manifesto. Along Soho’s winding streets, we’ll see the pubs and café’s where Marx’s fellow exiles gathered and made their plans to reignite revolution in Europe. As we stroll, Dr Jones will explain the details Marx’s life in exile, the impact of his time in exile on his ideas, and why London – and Britain- was the asylum of choice for refugees trying to change the world.

Troubles Tour - With a Local

At Belfast City Hall you will be provided with an audio headset and receiver so you don’t miss a word. You’ll visit the City Hall before walking to the Peace Walls, approximately 90 minutes. You’ll receive a full, detailed and objective commentary to provide you with the historical and political background to ‘the Troubles’ but the tour is not in chronological order, it relates to places it passes. Please note that a good to fluent command of English is required. Stopping at the International Wall, you’ll get a chance to view the political murals before you visit the Walls. There is ample time for photographs. You’ll return to Belfast City Centre, where you visit the Cathedral Quarter. You’ll meander in and out of historic entries, see the sights and see what’s hidden in plain sight. You’ll learn about our radical history, and the culture and art that makes Belfast such a vibrant and exciting city. You'll take in the City Centre & Albert Clock before the tour finishes in a historic church. You walk inside, you walk back to the late 1700s to a time of revolution and radicalism. Belfast is a city of contrasts, and the tour is designed to reflect that. Expect to be entertained, engaged and informed. The pace of this tour is moderate. You will walk approximately 3.5 miles in 2.5 to 3 hours. We sometimes have 4 seasons in one day, so dress appropriately.

Our last stop in Westminster before heading underground on the tube is the start of Westminster Bridge where we will be able to see the Eye and other sights. Then we'll go to the London Bridge area, we'll see Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Clink Prison, London Bridge, The old warehouse district, Borough Market, The Shard, views of the Square Mile, HMS Belfast, Tower Bridge, and the Tower of London.
