Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary
Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary. We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people). Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species. Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots. Other things to note: Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to two rescue dogs, two Holstein cows and two sulcata tortoise. While we like to keep our group sizes small to enhance a personal experience, we are open to hosting larger family/friend groups with more than six individuals.

  • Sunset Ho’o Ponopono Ceremony
You will participate in a Ho'oponopono Bowl of Light sunset ceremony. Ho'oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of setting things right. Ho'o = to make. Pono = good/right. We will prepare for the ceremony with an opening chant to bless the land and deepen our connection to it. Then I will teach you how to make your own sacred ki leaf lei for your wrist or ankle. I will share cultural insights and practices as we prepare for the Bowl of Light Ceremony by learning the 4 powerful healing statements of Ho'oponopono. I will also teach you a sacred Aloha chant. At sunset, you will be ready for your personal Bowl of Light Ceremony! You can practice this any time or at any sunset for the rest of your life. Your bowl and lei will be your reminders to live in the peace of this practice. Your ki leaf lei will dry as a keepsake. You may also choose to make another lei to give as a sacred offering when you leave the island. I look forward to celebrating this special ceremony with you on your Hawaiian holiday. Other things to note We will be on grass and sand, and perhaps walk out to tide pools on rocky shore at sunset. You may also walk into water if you like. So you may want swim suit and/or warm comfortable clothes.

  • Dolphin swim/reef snorkel
You’ll check in at 7:30am and gear up. You’ll get a briefing on ocean etiquette and safety along with how to interact with the dolphins, once you're in the water with them. You’ll leave the dock at 8:00am to seek out the pod. You’ll travel up or down the beautiful picturesque Kona coast, while seeking out the dolphins. Once you’re with the pod, you’ll get in the water from the extra large custom built swim platform for an easy on, easy off access to the dolphins. Dolphins are curious by nature and will immediately swim around you to check you out and show off their talents and they don’t disappoint. This is truly a unique encounter you can’t get anywhere else. This isn’t anything like being with them at the water park where you just get a photo op, you’ll actually be swimming with them in their natural habitat. Once that adrenaline rush is over you’ll be back on the boat heading over to one of the many reefs along our coast to snorkel with tropical fish and sometimes sea turtles. If everyone in the group is okay with fishing, I'll troll a few lines to and from the reef in order to get everyone dinner. We'll clean and fillet our catch and bag it up for you. There are a few local restaurants that will cook it for you if you don't have a way to cook it yourself. There is no other experience in Kona like this. My boat does have a bathroom.

  • Hawaii Kona Coffee Tour Roasting Lesson
You'll get an in-depth and personable tour of our farm with our knowledgeable guide Tory, who has been our team at the farm for about a year now. Our farm is the oldest certified organic coffee farm on the island. We’ll offer you a tasting of each of our 2 roasts while informing you about the history and cultivation process of Kona coffee, interesting plant science and agriculture facts that touch on the fascinating world of coffee in Hawaii, as well go over the flavor notes that different stages in roasting that can create. Once finished, we’ll take a walk around our property where you’ll see the coffee trees and learn how coffee is handled and taken through an elaborate set of processes that turns it from a raw and slightly sweet fruit into drinkable coffee. At the end of the tour, you'll get to roast a batch of coffee with our owner and master roaster Tara and see how it turns from a simple green bean to the complex flavor packed coffee you enjoy. You’ll be working with our vintage and beloved roaster made in the early 1970’s, which is a rare experience. Other things to note! Please remember we are a real, operating farm. Ours is a nearly 100 year old house. While we may not be the shiniest farm, we love what we do and that shows brightly through every member of our team!

  • Paint Orchids w/ local artist
This experience gives you a unique opportunity to paint orchids on the Orchid Isle with a third generation local professional artist in her island home. Orchid Isle Manor: is what I call my home (neighbors call the 'Painted Castle'). They will get to see some of my artwork on the way to the painting space. Depending on the weather, I have an outdoor painting space and an indoor studio. My property is in the lush Kona coffee country and we will be painting some of the orchid varieties that grow here on Hawai'i ; The Orchid Isle. I walk students step by step through how to paint the orchid from start to finish. Adding fun facts about our island and orchids through out the class. After painting, we will take some locally grown tea or award-winning Kona coffee from my family's plantation on the lanai to let our artwork dry. Everyone goes home with a beautiful, finished painting that should fit easily in their suitcase. It's the perfect relaxing afternoon for the artistic traveler. Guests are encouraged to explore the little Artist's village of Holualoa where they can see the work of many of the artists who live in our community & eat or shop before or after the class. Other things to note Please let me know the ages and skill level of those attending.
