You will be staying in one of the oldest homes in Keene. The Aaron Seaman House was built in 1804 and maintains much of it's antique Colonial Charm. Keene is a quaint New England town with an "up and coming" foodie and art scene. You'll be steps away from great restaurants, shopping, entertainment and the free "walkabout" gallery of WallDog Art. We are an easy drive to many lakes and hiking areas, including the famous Mt. Monadnock. We welcome guests from all walks of life!
Welcome! Your rooms include a bedroom with a queen bed with 100% cotton linens and an adjoining sitting area with a futon that can be used as a double bed. There is a door in between the rooms so if one person wants to sleep, while the other stays up to read or watch some TV, this gives added privacy. Your bathroom has shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided in the stand-up shower. We only use 100% cotton towels / wash clothes. The Aaron Seaman House is over 200 years old and retains many of its antique charms such as wide wooden board floors, stained glass over the entry way, and classic crown molding around the downstairs doorways. Being over 200 years old, it also has the typical quirks of a house this age. The walls are original plaster / horse hair and the floors have settled throughout the years. Back in the day, homes were made for much shorter people, so keep that in mind as you enter the rooms! In addition to your private rooms and bathroom, there is also a sitting area at the top of the hall, beside your bedroom. It’s another area that you are welcome to use. Your room includes a ✓ mini-fridge and ✓ coffee / tea set up.
We are two blocks from downtown Keene / Head of the Square with easy walk to Keene's many local shops, cafes and restaurants. Enjoy the free walking tour of the Wall Dog Historical Murals scattered around the downtown. There are also walking bicycle trails nearby too. We are an easy drive to many lakes and hiking areas, including the famous Mt. Monadnock. Spofford Lake, Surry Dam, Island Pond and Warren Lake are some local favorite swimming and kayaking spots. 15 minutes North is beautiful Walpole, NH with Burdick's Chocolate Shop and European Restaurant, as well as the stunning Walpole Mountain View Winery. A 20 – 25 minute drive West will take you to Brattleboro VT, a funky, fun classic VT spot. The Marina Restaurant and Whetstone Brewery's rooftop Beer Garden both overlook the Connecticut River. We love visiting the Grafton Cheese shop and Saxton River Distillery in Brattleboro. Many ski areas are in easy driving distance: Granite Gorge, Crotched Mountain, Mt. Sunapee, Mt. Snow, Pat’s Peak and more!
  • Bonnie and Abe have a beautiful home with a very special place to stay. Everything was perfectly done. The decor and colors in the rooms are gentle and unique. We felt so at home and had a peaceful sleep. Bonnie and Abe are special people. We are so happy to have met them.

  • I had a wonderful stay at Bonnie and Abe’s! I am student who travels to town for residency. I would highly recommend this to my fellow academics coming into town who are looking for an alternative to a hotel. I had ample privacy and they also made themselves very accessible if/when I needed anything. They were very responsive and responded within an hour or less in most cases. I came and went a lot due to my schedule and the access code for the door made that very convenient. It was minutes away from Antioch and downtown and I found myself conveniently in between. Most importantly the space and hosts were very intentional and warm. Special touches all around and a super comfy lounging area where I spent some late nights getting work done on my laptop. :)

    Jessica2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great low key spot to stay while in Keene. Walking distance to everything, very clean, and having a sitting room made it a great place to stay for two introverts :)

    Julia2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • My daughter and I spent a night at Bonnie’s home and it was everything we expected and more. The space was lovely, bed was super comfy with wonderful little extras like complimentary robes, water in the mini fridge and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon (our favorite)! The location was outstanding, literally steps from downtown. We parked and there was no need to get back in the car until we left. We so enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to book with Bonnie on our next trip to Keene.

    Heidi2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay! Our space was comfortable, clean and the location is absolutely perfect for enjoying downtown Keene. Your welcoming touches...the wine and binder of things to do...were amazing. The antiques were lovely, but the modern touches of the coffeemaker and mini fridge were most welcome. You are both great hosts; extremely friendly and very responsive to any questions we had. We would stay here again and would definitely recommend this space to anyone coming to Keene.

    Richard2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • For a couple that is fairly new at this they hit home runs! So many nice and thoughtful touches you would not believe I have a pet peeve and they had it solved without me asking. They had USB ports on their lamps so my electronics could charged overnight Shower and bathroom were perfect and I got a great nights rest. I picked this place because it was mentioned about walking downtown in the evening which I did and thoroughly enjoyed it.’ A map was prepared for me in advance so I was ready. You won’t go wrong here...... super value

    Jerry2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a charming place to stay! It has an antique feel that fits right in with the classic New England style. Bonnie was such a wonderful host, easy to communicate with and willing to give suggestions about what to do around the area! The location was so close to downtown which allowed for easy access to many restaurants and stores! If you are looking for a quaint spot you should consider staying here!

    Amelia2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Ok, let me start by saying the pictures do not do this place justice! It was so cute and perfect! It’s a super quick walk to downtown. Bonni and Abe were the perfect hosts. PS great shower with amazing water pressure.

  • Staying at Susan's was a wonderful initiation into the airbnb experience. Communication was excellent, and Susan greeted us upon arrival. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and convenient to downtown Keene. Every morning we enjoyed delicious muffins, fresh fruit and locally-sourced coffee. Knowing we are relocating to the area, Susan and Eric were gracious to engage in conversations about Keene. We would definitely stay here again and recommend their place to future travelers. Thanks, Eric and Susan!

    Richard2017-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Susan is such a great host! I felt like a cherished friend visiting! As a fellow host, now guest- I was really impressed! I made my reservation for one of my daughters graduation in the college town of Keene. I wish I had known of Susan and her place prior to graduation! It was clean, comfortable, private, well located, and large. Susan was very accommodating - letting me change my reservation from the expected two people to three. My mother, myself and a daughter all stayed there very comfortably. Susan went out of her way to see that we had snacks, soda, juice, coffee, tea, fresh fruit and muffins for the morning. I loved the cosy middle room with a rocker a chairs. The front room with the bed was perfect too! The TV room was spacious also. Shampoo, soap and extras in the bath and the finishing touch- fresh flowers (lily of the valley!!!) made my day! Thank you Susan!

  • Susan's place is lovely and great for a couple of relaxing evenings- clean and quiet. Even though we arrived quite late at night Susan still came up to say hello and have a quick chat. Breakfast basics were also available and lots of recommendations for local restaurants. Would definitely stay again if driving through Keene. Highly recommended!!

    Daniela2016-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Really great space, wonderfully accommodating space, central to Keene and accessible to the surrounding area. Would recommend hosts and home to all!

    Kevin2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • I arrived late--close to 9 pm--and Susan was waiting for me. So nice! The place was just what I needed. Cozy, clean, and very comfortable. Lovely set up with coffee, muffins, fruit, water, etc. I thought it was nicer than the pictures. I had to leave early in the morning so didn't have opportunity to thank Susan in person and say good bye. I hope to return in the future.

  • What an amazing place! Will is a young man that just bought this wonderful place and his plans for the future are wonderful. In the meanwhile, he has the start of a cozy and comfy B and B. If you want to know about Keene make sure to have a bite to eat with Will and the other guests in the AM. His local knowledge is fantastic and he can advise you on some great hiking trails that are less travelled. This will be my go to space when I go visit my son at Keene...oh yeah...Keene State is right across the street.

    Vinny2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Go out of your way to stay here! Great location, great space and incredible host. Be sure to linger over your breakfast, great time to exchange stories with Will and other guest. Beautiful property. Right on the main street but very quiet. Will knows the area well and makes great recommendations on things to do and see. Will is very kind and congenial and makes your stay very special. Can't wait to find another reason to travel north so can stay with Will again. Wish you many more funs years as an Inn Keeper.

  • Staying with Sue was a wonderful choice for my first time in Keene! She was very welcoming and the space felt inviting. The bedroom that I stayed in was well kept and the bathroom was large and roomy. I absolutely loved the comfy bed and reading chair. The best part of my experience was that her home was just a mile walk from downtown. Being from Chicago I love to explore new places by foot!

    Sarah2015-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • My first experience with Airbnb, as others have mentioned, Sue is extremely hospitable and welcoming. The small attention to details and excellent communication eased any fears of using this service. Would highly recommend and will be coming back. A+

    Jeff2015-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • We were in town for a wedding and decided to skip the over priced hotel and stay here instead! We didn’t spend too much time at the house but the pictures are very accurate. Communication was great and Ann even let us keep a few things in the fridge. The house is very charming and just outside of town. Very easy to get to. I highly recommend the jalapeño cheese bagel at The Works for a quick breakfast bite. Also, all the hype about the leaves is true. They were beautiful.

    Kurt2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sue's place is fantastic and she is a hospitality Airbnb pro! I had a A truly New England experience: a storm outside, but inside it was all about hospitality, warmth, a beautiful cozy home, and privacy! I had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning because the bed was SO comfy and the room felt so cozy. Sue is fantastic host and provided a lovely breakfast of local coffee and bagels, fresh pressed apple cider and fruits and cereals. I own an Airbnb and was really impressed and beyond satisfied with my stay! Abby

  • Michele was a lovely host. Very kind and friendly, the house was absolutely darling. It was nice to leave and come back to a greeting by one of the cats, and the pups were very sweet and laid back too. The futon was comfortable! I mostly spent my time here sleeping, but I felt very relaxed and welcomed during my stay. Would highly recommend to a young traveling female. Michele’s abode is just steps from downtown Keene, and she was so very helpful in making suggestions for things to do locally. Thank you again Michele!

Welcome to The Phineas Handerson House, originally built in 1827 by the “the happiest man in town” Able Wilder. Step back in time when you stay in my second floor apartment just one block from Central Square in Downtown Keene. This apartment features two bedrooms, a family room, full kitchen/dining area, and full bathroom. Other tenants occupy part of the building, but guests have a private entrance at the front and off-street parking behind the building.
There are two large bedrooms, one with a queen bed, a desk, dresser, and a large closet if needed. The second bedroom has a full size bed, dresser, and large closet. The bathroom has a tub and shower with a massage head, as well as a bidet. The family room has a 42 inch TV and a library of antique books and wireless internet. Finally, there is a kitchen fully equipped with an oven range, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, small microwave and includes any utensils you would need.
For breakfast try Timoleon’s or Lindy’s Diner. For a locally sourced and environmentally conscious meal, check out The Works Café. Best coffee in the county is at Prime Roast on Main Street. There is also an array of Asian and Mexican restaurants and fun bars like the 21 Bar and Grille, Lab n’ Lager, and the Pour House, Finally, if you enjoy fine spirits, come visit us in Winchester at the New England Sweetwater Distillery.
  • The location of Patti's place is ideal! It is a 5-minute walk to several restaurants and coffee shops. We had everything we needed at Patti's place and ideal for two couples to stay there.

    Ynke2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful space. There are two real beds in private bedrooms. There is plenty of living space. Patti provided a nice selection of items for breakfast including cereal, English muffins, a small loaf of chocolate banana bread, ground coffee, real butter and water. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking and cleaning. Finally, it is easy walking distance to downtown (about 3 blocks). We will definitely stay here again if it is available next time we come to Keene.

  • Awesome place walking distance to downtown!

    Tessa2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a charming old home which is just a couple of blocks away from Keene’s downtown area. You can walk to any one of the many coffee shops, restaurants or shops downtown. Patti offered great suggestions for places to try and they did not disappoint. The accommodations were very comfortable, two bedrooms with queen sized beds, a family room with cable tv, and an eat-in kitchen. All are located on the second floor of a two family house which provides plenty of room and privacy. There were many little personal touches which were a nice surprise. Patti was very friendly and easy to coordinate plans with. If you are looking to visit the Keene area, this would be a lovely place to stay.

  • Patti’s place is a charming historic house in a great location. We enjoyed walking just a few minutes into downtown Keene for coffee in the morning. Each bedroom also had its own A/C unit which was nice during the night to keep us cool as we slept. Would gladly recommend this place to anyone wanting a unique stay in downtown Keene.

  • Great location-a five minute stroll to the heart of Keene. Lots of room, a fully functioning kitchen, a parking spot available. Pretty awesome to be in an antique house. It was clean (impeccably), and comfortable and welcoming. I would stay here again.

    Anne2019-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was perfect for our needs. Great location in walking distance to downtown Incredibly clean! Patti was quick and responsive. And there was organic coffee and half and half in the kitchen when we arrived!

    Lori2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great large space in a great location at Keene’s center. We spent 3 nights in this beautiful 2 bedrooms and living room apartment. It has a separate part in a period house. It was wonderful to find that Patti stocked the kitchen with some goodies for us. The space was large and comfortable with parking space in the back. Short walk to great coffee places and many options to eat. I Highly recommend to talk a walk to see the many new murals that are located near by. We drove 10 minutes to Surry Lake - it’s free and almost a private spot. Now we need to plan our next stay at Patti’s during the Fall!

  • Sue's lovely home is situated in the NE corner of Keene, NH on a quiet street convenient to a number of thoroughfares. This updated older home is immaculate, filled with warmth and thoughtful touches unique to Sue with a private upstairs guest area filled with sunlight and very comfortable. We particularly appreciated a delicious breakfast of muffins, fruit and fresh coffee timed for our busy schedule. Sue is extremely kind and showed great consideration in all her communications and encounters with us during our stay. I highly recommend this hospitable host and lovely home. Thank you, Sue! We hope to be able to stay again!

  • This was a fantastic spot to land while taking an intensive course at Antioch. Sue was friendly and welcoming and very approachable if I had needed anything. The room was clean and quiet and a great place to retreat and get some work done. With the couch and coffee table in there, it almost felt like a suite! Location is a super quick and easy drive into downtown Keene and I would have walked if the weather was better. Thanks, Sue!

  • I had a great stay! I was traveling for work with my dogs and I am always grateful when they are welcome. We got plenty of rest and were very comfortable in our room.

  • Sue's place was beautiful & cozy. Very clean and all the conveniences at your fingertips! Security in the home was good and her hospitality was 5 stars! Loved our visit to her home and the Keene NH area! Thank You Sue for being such a great host!

    Sandra2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The room was lovely and the guest host Anne was very pleasant. The road however, was very noisy with traffic in the mornings and we were woken both days that we stayed by the traffic. In addition, someone else in the house was playing the TV very loudly until 1:00 AM. We expect it was the tenant who rents an apartment in the house.

    Sarah2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place and host. Sue was very warm and welcoming and provided ample amenities. The rooms are in the attic so there are some stairs but they are not so bad. Ample space and clean.

Price per night listed is room rate plus 9% NH room tax. Beautiful room in the heart of the Monadnock region, very close to Keene NH, and Keene State. This listing is for our "Blackwatch Room" which has a Queen bed and a private bath, with heated marble floors. The Inn has four rooms total, and this is one the four. Price does NOT include breakfast. That can be ordered separately.

This is the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire and is the perfect location for exploring surrounding towns and neighboring Vermont and Massachusetts. The inn has cable TV, wireless internet access for your computer and off street parking.

  • We enjoyed our two nights at the Inn. Despite having just taken over the inn two months ago, Mike was well and top of everything. The room was very comfortable; the sitting room full of games was inviting; and our breakfasts were just what we wanted.

  • We tried to get a room in a Keene hotel for our one-night stay in the area, but every hotel was booked. We found this inn while looking for a place to stay on AirBnb and chose it because it offered air conditioning. The house is huge. There's a garden in the front yard which could use a little work. (I'm a gardener, so I feel comfortable saying this.) We entered through the indicated door. The entryway reminded me of my grandfather's garage, with stacks of chairs and old tables, other antiques, and information about the area. From there we entered a small dining area. We knocked on the swinging door to the kitchen to let the innkeeper know we'd arrived. The ceilings of the downstairs rooms are low. The dining room felt a bit cluttered with its antique furniture. Just beyond the dining room was a small room that seemed to serve as a gift shop-cum-chair caning center. There was a nice collection of jams and jellies, which appeared homemade, plus a collection of spices. The first impression of the downstairs: between the low ceilings, so typical of an historic home, the gleaming wood floors, the collection of antique furniture, and the old paintings that lined the walls, the first floor seemed dim. There was a strong musty smell. It's only fair to say that the weather had been extremely humid and rainy prior to our arrival; we can't say whether the smell would be present at other times. Our room was quite pleasant. It had a queen bed, a twin bed, a wood-backed love seat, a padded settee, an antique dresser, a cable TV, and a window air conditioning unit. Wireless access was readily given, but was spotty at best. The bathroom was large. As a massive heat wave was coming to an end at the time of our visit, we loved that there were so many windows and that all of them were open. What a delightful sleeping environment. The down side was the proximity to the road; we heard cars passing all night. We were served a small & tasty Irish soda bread to share among the two of us and one other inn guest, juice, coffee, sliced fruit, and a slice of French Toast thick with a streusel topping, with real maple syrup if desired. We would have enjoyed eggs from the wonderful flock of chickens in the side yard The Inn of the Tartan Fox is fine for an overnight stay. We would stay again if the need arose, but we would not make it a first-choice destination.

  • My stay at the Inn of the Tartan Fox was fabulous - I highly recommend it if you are visiting Keene or the surrounding area. The multi-course breakfasts were the highlight of each morning - a warm baked good followed by a fruit plate and an entree, and plenty of hot coffee as well. Meg and Wayne made a special accomodation for me by providing almond milk instead of regular dairy, just one example of their thoughtfulness. Another fun perk was meeting the pack of chickens that provided the breakfast eggs - they are a happy and well cared for bunch. The bedroom was very tidy and we didn't lack for anything. Each bedroom has its own tartan and ours was nicely appointed with historic New England items (like a wash basin and pitcher) that add to the ambiance. The bathroom was stocked with toiletries, which was perfect since we forgot to bring soap. There is a gift shop in the inn, containing lots of delicious looking home canned jams and other foods, and several homemade wood carvings. I would have bought way more if I thought I could fit them in my carry-on bag.

  • We had a nice stay at the inn! It is a charming place and Mike was friendly and helpful. He also made gluten free scones to accommodate my mom's food allergy - the breakfast was very nice.

  • Mike is a great host. The room was exactly as advertised and Mike was very flexible with my schedule (check-in time/breakfast time). Internet was fast and reliable. However, the best part of the stay was definitely Mike's breakfast: 3 course breakfast with freshly baked scones, baked apple, and eggs Benedict! Thanks Mike.
