Beautifully finished 1BR/1BA basement unit in our family home. A 7 minute walk from the Stadium-Armory Metro station and a 30 minute walk from the US Capitol. Whether you're in town for a conference or to visit the nation's capital, this space is both convenient and affordable.
This is the basement of our home. We both work full-time and live here. So, we'll be around outside of work hours, but we'll be upstairs. You will have your own private entrance through the back. The gate's a little wonky, but we trust you'll be able to figure out our high-tech bungie cord technology.
We're just a few blocks from Stadium Armory Metro on the Blue/Orange/Silver line (please use the north exit marked "This Way to Stadium"). This is a family neighborhood.
  • Great location for visiting the centre of Washington. Short underground ride to everything, 5 mins walk from the underground, with food stories 5 mins away. Lovely hosts! A real winner...

  • Very clean and convenient. Perfect place to stay if you want to metro into the city and have somewhere close to call home base. Mark and Elizabeth were very quick to reply to our questions and flexible with our check in time. Would definitely stay again.

    Laura2018-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We really liked our stay at Mark and Elizabeth's house. At their place you will find a beautiful, cozy, comfortable, private and clean space in their basement. If not having a car, from DC downtown you can either take a metro Orange, Blue or Silver line and drop in the "Stadium-Armony" station which will leave you 2 blocks away from the place or take the bus number D6. When going to explore downtown and monuments dropping in Union Station will connect you with the buses “circulator” taking you to interesting places such as Georgetown,The National Mall and monuments.

  • It was great staying at Mark & Elizabeth's place. Everything was as described, very clean, very cozy and well equipped! Highly recommended.

  • This airbnb was awesome! We got here early in the morning and parked our car in the back of the unit (for extra $10) then dropped our stuff in the room and walked less than 10 minutes to the metro stop. The place is clean and simple and has everything you’d need for a night or two in DC. I would book here again if I came back.

  • The basement was really clean and spacious. Annoying noisy machine in the closet. The machine woke us up at night. Unfortunately the couch could not be unfolded. The rest was perfect.

  • Great place to stay. I can say that we had our own small flat :) Everything was super clean. Easy way from Union Station ( about 15 min) by street car, which is for free. One of the best airbnb I’ve ever visited. I really recommend.

Newly renovated basement studio apartment in a 1920s home. Guests will have the entire basement for their enjoyment which includes private bathroom and efficiency kitchen. Private entrance and one free parking spot available. Steps to the Stadium-Armory metro stop.
The space is an efficiency studio in the basement of our townhouse. There is a separate entrance from the back of the house where the parking pad is. The space has everything you need, full bathroom, queen size bed, couch that converts to a full size bed, smart tv, and efficiency kitchen. The kitchen has a microwave, hot plate, and refrigerator. All the essentials to cook a hot meal. We are a one block walk to the Silver, Blue, and Orange Metro lines at Stadium-Armory. Queen size air mattress available upon request. Kindle Fire stick available with access to Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Please note that the house is almost 100 years old, heating and air-conditioning were added during the renovation and control the temperature to the entire house. The basement is naturally colder in the winter due to DC temperatures and colder in the summer due to A/C usage. We utilize a Nest thermometer and can adjust temperature remotely if needed. We have taken steps to mitigate with vent covers, space heaters, and extra blankets. This is a no-smoke and drug free space.
East Hill by the old RFK stadium is an up and coming neighborhood. We live on a street with many families and professionals.
  • Great location. Quiet neighborhood. Really close to the metro station for the blue, silver and orange lines. 2 stop for great food, Eastern Market. Direct from the airport, blue line. You can Uber to any place. Clean space.

  • This place is great. Very close to the Metro. They provided drinks and snacks. Very clean.

  • We loved staying at Gwen's place! The location and features were exactly as desribed online and she had so many thoughtful touches that went above and beyond what we had expected! We would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a beautiful, comfortable, private airbnb experience close to the city.

    Audrey2018-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of the best AirBnB's we have stayed at. Check in was easy, the apartment was perfectly clean, and traveling to the National Mall was easy with the metro close by. Gwen and Vince were also very accommodating. Would highly recommend!

    Sarah2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really wonderful weekend in DC, and a comfortable stay at this Airbnb. It might seem a bit out of the way, but it's only a 10 minute bike ride to the US Capitol Building (we used the bike share company called "capital bikeshare" - very convenient and a fun way to see all the sights without destroying your feet). There is a convenient lock pad to get in & out, allowing a more flexible check-in and check-out without the need to coordinate directly with the host. There were also some thoughtful touches in the home that made our stay feel very cozy. If we come back to DC we will definitely stay here again!

    Taylor2018-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Easy communication, simple check in and out, parking place, metro and bus station few steps away. Everything you need you will have in this apartmant.

We're a 20 min walk to the historic Eastern Market. Our favorite neighborhood restaurant is La Lomita, just a 10 min walk down the street - they're known for great food, service, and margaritas! Enjoy the quiet treelined streets, colorful row homes, and neighborhood gardens of historic DC. We are right across the street from the Congressional Cemetery which is free to the public and open daily - we highly recommend!
  • Renee and Daniel were great hosts. The space was clean and in a great location.

    Camille2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very special place - specifically for a solo traveler. Super close to the metro, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, fast wifi, privacy. I come to DC every week for work for a few days. I stayed there during the coldest week [of the century!!!!], washed my hair in the morning and found no hairdryer. Instead of trying to accommodate me, the host wrote me that this is not a place for a commuter who comes to DC for work; they offer a cheap place with a parking, which is a big deal in DC and I should be okay with that. I kind of question the judgment here.... How it's okay to offer all sorts of other stuff [iron, fridge] but no hairdryer is beyond me. If it was middle of the summer I would not care, but on a super cold day? I hope my experience will sensitize the host to invest in this basic, cheap gadget to make their guests' experience as special as the place itself.

  • A beautiful private space in a great location! We had everything we needed and it was so clean! Thank you, we had a great weekend!

    Piyush2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • They have done the absolute minimum. They put a bed with pillows without pillowcases in a musty basement with a shower and a toilet that you enter through an alley after walking past the DC jail. There's a coffee maker that requires filters but there are no filters let alone coffee supplies. Bathroom amenities are whatever was probably cheapest. Simply put, they are overcharging or they just shouldn't do AirBnB - it's not a good space. I did AirBnB in DC in the basement of my house for 4 years. People arrived to a security door similar to theirs but with a flashlight hanging off the bars so they could more easily see the lockbox (and they were standing in my garden as they entered, not an alley in a sketchy part of town). Guests entered through the laundry room, too, in which we didn't store tools - in fact, we hung a curtain to block all that off so that it felt just a little less like a basement. And, then, guests came into a spacious two-room basement (about 4x the size of this one) with 5 actual beds - not a bed and a hard futon - and a full bathroom, with a fully stocked coffee and tea bar and a few snacks, with an alarm clock, a choice of toiletries and towels, a hair dryer and a hard-copy of a "Welcome Guide" and wifi details ... for $99. And no cleaning fee. Yes, they describe everything somewhat accurately (except forgetting to mention the neighboring jail) but it's just an example that not every spare 300 square feet in anyone's home should become an AirBnB, or, if so, it should be priced appropriately.

Great spot near metro (blue, orange and silver line). Close to RFK stadium, Eastern Market, The Capitol, and museums downtown. One queen size bed and a full size air mattress available if needed. Seating area and television. Amazon Firestick available for your use. Full bathroom on same level. Mini-fridge. Separate, private, secure entrance.
Stroll through history at Congressional Cemetery, take in a soccer game, concert or other event at RFK stadium or take a walk up to Eastern market and shop the flea market and eat/drink your way through 8th street restaurants and pubs, The metro is a short walk (5 mins) and you can be at Smithsonian Metro Station in 11 minutes.
  • The place was great! We loved everything! The hosts we’re great quick response and a lot of help and links for nice restaurants and good places in dc! The family is super nice and very open to people and try to help when you need something!

  • We were here two nights, and Jon made everything a breeze. Great at communication. The room had everything we needed. The walk to the Metro is relatively easy. Will definitely consider staying next time I'm in DC.

  • Very nice place close to 2 metro stations, the family was very friendly and the place had books and puzzles for the kids, there is a mini fridge now, place looks just like the pictures!

  • Jonathan was a treat to work with. He and his family are lovely. They communicated very well with me ahead of my arrival. Were quick with helpful recommendations throughout. The space is very small, but it was fine for my needs. My two daughters shared the bed, and I was provided a blow-up mattress with bedding. It was very clean. We found a bottle of water for each of us, along with a granola bar and instant coffee that gave me enough spirit to make it to a shop and get the bigger fix I needed. There is a small fridge and a hot water pot for your coffee or tea. The location was fantastic. It was a 7 minute walk to the Metro, and I think we were 4 or so stops from the Smithsonian. Super easy. As a DC novice, Jonathan and fam gave great advice, directions, etc. My phone took me right to their place for an easy arrival, and let me right out of town for an easy escape. I really couldn’t be happier with our experience.

  • Booked Johnathan’s place for my parents who were in town visiting and they enjoyed their stay. The location was in a very peaceful and safe neighborhood of DC (Capitol hill)and Johnathan and his family were very friendly and welcoming. We would recommend this place to others.

  • The house is a professionally run AirBnB place. The room, and the kitchen were clean although only suitable for predominantly touristic stays because of its small size. The mattress was very comfortable!

Welcome to the nation's capital! Conveniently located near iconic Capitol Hill, the burgeoning H Street Corridor/Atlas District, and bustling Navy Yard/Capitol Riverfront, this private basement apartment boasts high ceilings, 2 flat-screen TVs w/cable, Fios high-speed WiFi, queen bed, washer/dryer, full bath, & kitchenette. ***BEFORE BOOKING, please read about our LOCATION, QUIRKS & NOISE.***
Our space is perfect for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, mature students, & responsible interns. We are located in a RESIDENTIAL neighborhood on the *outskirts* of Capitol Hill, about a 10-minute walk to the metro and just a few hundred feet from the bus stop. Our inviting basement apartment features: - Private entrance - High ceilings - Spacious bedroom with queen bed - 55” TV in bedroom with full cable and On Demand - Fios high-speed WiFi - Full bathroom with walk-in shower - Washer & dryer (yours, not shared) - Kitchenette (sink, microwave, mini fridge, countertop convection toaster oven, induction cooktop/hot plate, mini Instant Pot, blender, Nespresso machine, French press, electric tea kettle, dishes, glasses, utensils) - Pub table for two - 47” TV in living room with full cable, On Demand, and Blu-ray DVD player - Desk - Iron & ironing board - Hair dryer - Powered by solar (and we recycle)! Personally, we adore the space and find it very comfortable. We have “lived” in the AirBnB from time to time when having work done upstairs and always comment on how much we enjoy the experience. That said, it is a basement apartment so guests *WILL* hear us and our dogs living above. ***ATTENTION***NOISE ALERT*** A couple of our neighbors are renovating their homes. Although the activity is good for our neighborhood, the process is a bit disruptive. D.C. law permits construction Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and there is a *POTENTIAL FOR INCREASED NOISE AND CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY* during these hours. The *estimated* completion date of the renovation is sometime in December.
Our residential neighborhood, technically known as Kingman Park, is located a few blocks outside the area specifically designated as Capitol Hill. We are sandwiched between Hill East and the H Street corridor/Atlas District near RFK Stadium. If you are not accustomed to city life, D.C.’s urban fauna might take some getting used to. Our neighborhood is not glitzy or glamorous but our particular street is a hidden gem. We know most of our neighbors on the block, some of whom have lived here since the 1950s, and everyone looks out for one another. That said, the area is best described as “transitional.” Located on the outer edge of Capitol Hill proper and next to the quickly developing H Street corridor (Atlas District), the residents are diverse in many ways. This unique variety is mostly good but also includes some less desirable elements. We feel safe but are always vigilant, which is recommended practice around ALL parts of D.C. - or any large city for that matter. Always be cognizant of your environment and pay attention to those around you when in public spaces. Be on guard if you notice anything unusual or suspect. Avoid texting or being engrossed in your phone as this can detract you from noticing something out of the ordinary. If something feels “off,” always trust your intuition. Carrying pepper spray is a good idea in any city. • This place is amazing and we can say the same about the hosts! We are already talking about our next adventure to DC and will be sure to book this space we parked our car for the week and used the Metro (10 minute walk) or used Uber/Lyft. We enjoyed our stay!

  • Kristy & Greg’s place was absolutely perfect. It was extremely cozy and literally had everything you could possibly need within. They were also attentive hosts, checking base with us just to make sure we had everything we needed. 10/10 would recommend!

  • This was my first time using Airbnb and my time here was amazing. Everything in the listing was accurate and my expectations were actually exceeded because there were so many amenities available (like a Nespresso machine with coffee capsules!) There was construction next door on the weekdays from around 9am to 6pm but I’m an early riser so that didn’t bother me. Really happy I made the decision to stay here and I hope to visit again soon!

    Rachel2019-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is amazing. If you’re thinking of booking then definitely book this one. Everything is super clean and beautifully decorated. The little kitchen area was perfect for us when we were trying to save money by cooking dinner at home. I loved leaving the house and sometimes seeing their super cute dogs, which would make my mornings :) The hosts are amazingly kind when I had so many questions. I will definitely be coming back on my next visit!

    Cristina2019-08-28T00:00:00Z

In the heart of Capitol Hill near the Congressional cemetery and walking distance to two metro stations. The space is about 400 square feet with private room and bath. It is tastefully decorated for convenience and functionality in mind. Please read the full description before booking!
The suite has a full-sized bed with tempurpedic mattress as well as a small dresser. Additionally, you have love seat, private bathroom, mini-fridge, microwave, A/C and heat unit, and tv. The ceiling in this basement suite is 7ft with a few exposed tubes so if you are very tall, this room might not be for you. The space has good overhead lights but gets very little natural light. Our house is 1 block from Stadium-Armory metro station (the subway), 1/2 mile from Potomac Ave metro station (Harris Teeter supermarket is located in that area), a major bus stop, as well as a Capital Bikeshare bike dock where you can rent bikes by the hour or day(s). We offer free parking in front or side of the house, which is a rarity in this city. We will have a variety of teas, towels, linens, blankets, iron, and ironing board. We can sleep two additional people on a queen airbed mattress, if needed ($25 additional charge per night).
Jo and Dan’s home is located in Washington, District of Columbia, United States. 1 min. walk to : the historic Congressional Cemetery, 10 min. walk to a grocery store - Harris Teeter. 2 metro stops away from: Barracks Row and Eastern Market, which hosts a historic farmers' market. The area has coffee shops, yoga studios, shopping, many eateries/bars, and pharmacy. We’ve been working in the area for almost ten years and love the city! We hope you will too. If we can’t answer a question about the area, we know people who can!
  • Joselyd’s place is exactly as described. Pro: Next to the subway station. Cons: The entrance is very difficult to find, and you need to go through a pile of trash cans to find a pathway to get in the house. As the others said, you need to across a very very NARROW pathway to "check-in". If you have a large size or a large suitcase, you will not be able to enter this room. The bathroom and the bathroom are together, but because of the absence of an exhaust fan, smells are often heard. Due to the bathroom doesn't have an exhaust fan, the bathroom usually has some smell to smell. Because there is no air conditioning in the basement, the air is boring, and there is a very strong smell of paint. You will hear some noise of footsteps by someone walk on the upstairs. I feel hard to sleep due to these steps. The backyard is very UNCLEAN and there are all kinds of mosquitoes and insects flying. On the last day, my ear was bitten by a small insect, which caused it to hurt and itchy now.

    Jerry2019-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Joselyd’s place. The location is great and the place was a typical what you see is what you get, there wasn’t any surprises when we got there. There was a lot of space and the bed was really comfortable. What we really liked is that it was a private space, so the amount of host interaction you had was up to you, which in my opinion is great. Overall we had a really wonderful stay.

  • Joselyd’s place is exactly as described; conveniently located, clean, and quiet. My husband and I spent the weekend in DC with plans to see the city and Phil Collins. We had a great stay and only used the metro to and from the airport and one other time- we walked everywhere else! I also ran in Congressional Cemetery with all the locals and their dogs! Joselyd was kind, responsive, and accommodating- sending a friend over to deliver a hair dryer! It was the perfect space to call “home” for the weekend. My only recommendation to Joselyd was to describe the very narrow pathway to the space; nothing she can control since it was created by either neighbor’s fencing long before they moved in- but my husband and I are pretty small people- under 5’5 and 130 lbs- our suitcases had to be pushed narrow end down the pathway. I worry that if someone stayed there who was larger in stature, had lots of items (stroller) that couldn’t easily be maneuvered, it would be difficult or impossible to even get to the space. She mentions the lower ceiling in the space but the walkway could be a problem for someone over a certain weight regardless of height. I am only writing this so it’s not a surprise to anyone- we were able to see pictures of the walkway once we “checked in” on the app the day of our arrival - not sure if she would feel comfortable posting in advance for security purposes. Do not get me wrong- we would absolutely stay there again but we know people who would not be able to get down that pathway.

  • Joselyd‘s AirBnb was great! She provided a lot of informations for the city and responded always really quick. We had a great stay and would recommend her room!!

Our newly renovated studio is located in a quiet friendly neighborhood and has a separate entrance. We are located on Capitol Hill two blocks from the metro and can easily get to the Capitol and surrounding museums. It's a 20 minute walk to restaurants and the weekend farmer's market.
Our newly renovated basement studio has a private front entrance with keypad entry. My husband and I live in the main house and are fairly quiet but occasionally entertain dinner guests.
We love our diverse and friendly neighborhood. There is a great park four blocks away. You will see families, people with dogs and runners.
  • Beautiful and comfortable space.

  • Patty’s place is gorgeous, impeccably clean, right near the metro, and reasonably priced. I loved that I could make coffee and make breakfast in the morning. Would stay here again!

  • Wonderful place to stay!! Enough room for the two of us to stay comfortably, though there is so much to do in the city we weren't at the place for much more then sleeping and showering. It worked out well that this place has a private entrance after a couple late nights. Patti's home is located in a nice neighborhood that had us feeling safe and made commuting very easy. Patti was a wonderful host. She reached out ahead of time and allowed us it check in early. She built a helpful binder that was in the room that really helped us navigate our stay, both in the BnB and city. We will certainly be checking availability here first for a return trip in the future. Thank you Patti!!!

  • This is a top class let. Apart from the location, very high standard of the house and general area both Patty and Keith are most welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended

  • Patty was an excellent host! Her place is sparkling clean and offers any amenity you might need. The location is also excellent! Highly recommend booking here. We can not wait to be back in DC and stay with Patty! 5 Star experience!

  • Patty is a wonderful host!! Check in/out was super easy. The space was adorable! The kitchenette had everything we needed. We tend to cook a lot so we brought our own pots and pans because history has showed us that most hosts don’t have take this into consideration. Patty had all the basics and then some! Super impressed. The location was perfect for us too! We were able to walk or rent bikes to get to wherever we wanted. Patty had tons of recommendations for restaurants and sites nearby. Parking was a little hectic but definitely not a deal breaker. We loved our stay and plan on visiting again. Thank you Patty!!!

Impeccable and impressive home to experience the best of DC. If you are looking for an authentic experience during your stay in the Nation's Capitol, consider staying at our home. We welcome all guests of many nations and nationalities.
The Middlemist's Red features a plethora of comforts. This private room comes with a flat screen tv, fully loaded with Smart TV Apps and Netflix. Other amenities are: work desk, iron with ironing board; full size mirror; and hangers.
Lincoln Park is Capitol Hill - it is extremely walkable with bus stops everywhere, the blue-orange line passes right by the home. The red line at Union Station is just a mile away. The nearest metro to the home is two blocks away: Stadium Armory. The houses are gorgeous here. Everything is stunning in every season. So many trees and beautiful yards. Things to explore are: Eastern Market, Barracks Row, H Street, the Capitol, The Folger Shakespeare Theater, and the Library of Congress within a mile. The newly opened Union Market... and the ballpark are just minutes away.
  • The room was very nice, and in average the house (including the living areas) were one of the best I’ve had so far. The host nevertheless was one of the worst so far. She accused us all the time for silly things, like leaving a light on, that other guests behavior, not even asking us if we were the ones that did it. We asked her if we could drop off our luggage before check in our, she told us that we could, gave us the codes to get into the house (copy paste message, not even reading to what we asked), and then, when we bumped into other guests, she said that it was our fault, that “how did we dare going in without her permission”. To sum it up, she made a mistake, and blamed us for it. She also requested us to pay an extra fee, that was not announced anywhere, and would not let us in if we didn’t pay it.

  • Super clean, quiet neighborhood. Most comfortable bed I've slept in. Convenience to all things DC was great. Even a laundry mat. Dr Koura responded immediately to any questions we had We're planning our next trip to DC and will stay here again.

  • The space is impeccably clean, everything is new, and perfect for business travelers (nice large desk in the room I was in). I could not have asked for a more perfect spot to spend my week in DC. I would definitely stay here again if I return.

  • Great location in a quiet and nice neighborhood. The only downside is share bathroom but overall a wonderful stay.

  • I had to make a last minute trip to DC and was so fortunate that this place was available. Tiffany and Marquell are thorough, polite and accessible. And my room was not only pristine but also smelled divine! I couldn’t wait to nestle in bed after my train ride and slept very well. No noise except for the birds chirping outside your window. ;) If you want to be close to Capitol Hill, this is the spot - the metro station is two blocks away and you can get there in under ten minutes. I would definitely return and highly recommend this place.

Park your car in a free off-street parking spot and walk or take the metro from this charming English basement with plenty of natural light. Stylishly simple, classic design is enhanced by exposed brickwork, and homey touches.
Guests have their own private one bedroom with a full bath, living area and kitchenette. Free off street parking is available for small and medium sized cars.
The home is in a residential neighborhood on the eastern side of Capitol Hill, a 30-minute walk from the Capitol and a short 10 minute walk to the metro, buses, bike share, and Zipcars. Buy food and flowers at the historic Eastern Market, or dine out at Barracks Row.
  • We would stay here again...fairly close in, clean an comfortable...with thoughtful extras... Ie. Paper towells, purified water in the fridge and a great notebook answering all our questions. There was even soap to wash a tub of clothes?

    Dwight2018-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolutely darling apartment with very comfortable beds and a nice kitchenette. Very quiet. Located about a 7 min. walk to the metro station. We walked about 20 minutes one morning to the Eastern Market and had a nice breakfast and enjoyed shopping the local vendors before heading off on sightseeing. Autumn is very responsive; we loved it.

  • An incredibly clean and stylish spot to stay! Small, but not cramped, it was the perfect size for my boyfriend and I. Easily accessible and everything you could need was provided (think anything from umbrellas to advice on where to eat!) Autumn even messaged me about government work delays due to the weather! So happy that I had the opportunity to stay here

  • We absolutely loved staying at Autumn's place! She was incredibly attentive, on top of having everything you could ask for in a home away from home--great amenities, comfortable and stylish accommodations, easy access to transportation, and insightful tips and tricks from a local. The bed was super comfy, the bathroom was bright and beautiful, the kitchenette was super convenient, and the living space was cozy and homey. We would love to stay here again!

Private, basement in-law suite in Capitol Hill! Perfectly located close to two metro stops and an easy walk to Eastern Market/Barracks Row for restaurants and bars. 5 blocks to relaxing Lincoln Park. Enjoy a delicious breakfast and coffee including Nutella mocha around the corner at the Pretzel Bakery before you head out on your day in DC! Includes private bedroom, full kitchen, living area, and washer/dryer. Private entrance is from rear of house.
The unit is located on the outer part of Capitol Hill. It is less than a mile from the really wonderful and growing Eastern Market / Barracks Row area, and about one mile from H St Corridor / Atlas District. It is also about 1.8 miles from the Capitol and the start of the National Mall. The area around Barracks Row and Eastern Market, extending up Pennsylvania towards the Capitol has some great bars and restaurants. Barracks Row is 8th St SE running south from the Eastern Market Park to I St SE. It’s so named because the Marine Corps Barracks Washington and the house of the Commandant of the Marine Corps are located there between G St SE and I St SE. We love Montmartre and Belga for brunch, Acqua Al 2, Cava Mezze, Beuchert's, CHIKO, and Montmartre again for dinner, and Beuchert's, Tunnicliff's Tavern, and Ambar for drinks. Finally, for a quick breakfast, you can't go wrong with the Pretzel Bakery - a local institution!
  • Lovin' it! Peter's place was not only clean and comfortable, it was also cozy and inviting. As weary, red-eyed travelers, we asked to check in as early as possible and Peter was incredibly accommodating. He responded in a timely manner to all our questions and, additionally, queried if we needed anything. The bed was top notch, the linens clean and fresh, plus the kitchen/living room was spacious with a "real" couch that was quite agreeable after a long day of plodding about the Capital. The kitchen was fully equipped so, cooking or reheating was a breeze. Additionally, they had a Keurig coffee maker with the coffee and creamer provided. The creamer may have been left by another guest but still a nice touch. When I initially read from Peter's, concise and thorough, instructions that we needed to enter the property from the alley to access our private entrance, I was a bit apprehensive. This was completely unfounded. The alley is well lite and the neighborhood was brimming with families out walking their pets and children. We enjoyed the picturesque stroll along the beautiful row houses and playgrounds, to the nearby Metro station, both day and night, with not even one shiver of uneasiness or trepidation. As far as transportation in concerned, the proximity of the property to the Capital and downtown made it incredibly accommodating. We primarily used the Metro trains and bus system but did engage the services of an Uber or two, as well. With sparse parking, not only near Peter's place and most everywhere else, renting a car did not seem feasible or efficient. If we had a time constraint, such as a reservation, we took an Uber. Otherwise, with the use of the SmarTrip card, the Metro was an effective means of travel. Trains were timely, clean and as safe as any public metropolitan transportation. I would highly recommend Peter's place for anyone looking for a temporary home in the Washington DC area.

    Leslie2018-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Peter’s place was in a nice area, very family friendly and quiet. We really enjoyed our stay!

    Bing2018-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • The basement apartment was great, lots of room to relax and cook in. There were enough kitchen supplies available to cook our dinner at night. It is easy to hear the people above you, but it doesn't distract. The location is walking distance from the metro and a grocery store. It is a convenient place to stay to take the train in and explore DC.

    Anna2018-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and comfortable, with a welcoming host. Would happily stay here again.

  • Awsome place, great host

    Matthew2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Peter has been responsive and kind to my needs and the mishap about the incorrect inchecking information I received. The flat is excellent to be able to work in when one is travelling - close to the city and yet away from the hectic tourist life in DC. It is roughly 15 mins walk from the nearest Metro. For guests who are sensitive to disturbances from the surroundings, this is not a good choice (the hosts live right on top of this space and sounds come through). I didnt find this an issue.

    Sangeeta2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location - you could walk or Uber/Lyft @ reasonable costs to the Capitol or pretty much anywhere else in DC. Peter was super-responsive - quick to respond to emails and happy to meet with us if we needed some specific help; and very considerate - our baggage was delayed and he immediately offered to lend us some woolens if we needed any. The property entrance is independent and convenient. The apartment itself is cosy and clean. Overall, a great experience in DC.

Inner tranquility, East Capitol Hill Convenience + Urbanity.
Welcome to this art-filled urban sanctuary located on a city avenue, a couple of blocks from the blue, orange and silver lines metro and easily accessible by major thoroughfares and highways. We are close to public transportation in addition to the metrorail – bus stop across the street, bike share within 6 blocks, as well as easy on-street parking and gated driveway. Our little corner of the city is 10 blocks from the Barracks Row and Eastern Market restaurants and shops, about 15 blocks from the popular H Street corridor and 19 blocks from the US Capitol. The river is within walking or biking distance and connects to a waterfront trail – which takes you to the Navy Yard, Nationals Ballpark and all of those wonderful new restaurants and parks, not to mention river views. Farther down this trail is the SW Waterfront as well as the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, WWII Memorial, MLK Memorial, and the rest of the monumental core. The Mall, Capitol, and main tourist sites can also be directly reached via bike lanes on the neighborhood road system as well, or by bus, metro, cabs and Uber. Or you could choose to hang out in the garden, read a book on the terrace. Or come inside – where Sophie and I will greet you. Well, I’ll greet you at least, Sophie may be sunning herself by the French doors. I live and work here; this rental is for the master bedroom, where I typically stay when no guests are here. My art studio is on the lower level and I’m usually there during normal working hours. This rental gives you full access to the garden and outdoor space as well as the shared first floor living room, dining room and kitchen. The house has one bathroom which we share – and it’s a beaut! Walk-in shower and deep soaking tub with marble-lined walls. There is a second sleeping area that is open concept, closed at night by graceful drapes – an idea that I first became familiar with at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. That is where I stay when the master bedroom is occupied. The master bedroom is large with its own sitting area and an overall zen-like quality. A separate open sitting area/study divides the master bedroom and the second sleeping area and bathroom. Help yourself to any of the books in the study - there’s quite a range of subjects! You are welcome to fix yourself a meal in the kitchen – two excellent grocery stores are 5 blocks away – and a number of delivery or carry-out options from local restaurants. Original art and specialty finishes throughout the home – yours to enjoy; this does mean, however, that this rental is more suitable to the mature visitor and not really appropriate for wild reveling. I know, boo – maybe we can share a story or two about raucous days of our youth??
This neighborhood is very friendly with a cool blend of urban/family life/nature/cosmopolitan. We are across the street from Historic Congressional Cemetery where you can stroll through 35 acres of open beauty – and it’s a rare gem. Home to the famed Cemetery Dogs K9 Corps community, perhaps the first and only cemetery in the nation to have a coveted and active dogwalking program whose membership helps support this national treasure that is also a stop on the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom educational path. Congressional Cemetery was also “the first truly national burial ground as Congress bought sites, buried noted civil servants, and funded the infrastructure” and is home to all sorts of varied events such as Dead Man’s Run, the DC Front Runner’s Pride 5K Run, National Symphony Orchestra In the Neighborhood performance in the Chapel, craft beer festival, food truck extravaganza, lectures, art exhibits, well, you the get the idea – oh, lest we forget, the (more than) occasional historic reenactments. If none of that suits your fancy, and if you are a soccer fan, RFK Stadium is an easy walk away – the stadium makes a lovely evening backdrop. Did you know that Spain, the former World Cup championship team, practiced at RFK on its way to the 2014 World Cup? Naturally all of the usual tourist attractions such as the Smithsonian, the Mall, the Newseum etc are easily accessed by metro, bus, bike, taxi or a hearty stroll. Living and staying here is truly an urban experience – we’ve got it all – a bit of grit, a dash of sophistication and a huge serving of lovely people. Walk down the street at dinner time in the summer and you’ll find young couples heading out to a show, kids playing in the front yards, commuters walking home from the metro on our tree-lined streets with bags of goodies from the farmer’s market, aroma of someone’s dinner on the grill wafting through the air. Come on in and stay a night or two!
  • WOW! I cannot say one negative thing. I first hesitated staying here because of the location...don't make that mistake. It's a block away from the Metro and major bus stops. Colleen is an interesting and lovely person. She went out of her way to make my stay a great one. Her home and yard are beautiful. It is very clean. You share a bathroom but this was never a problem, she's an early riser. I had a car and she got me a parking pass. The parking is not an issue in her neighborhood, I parked in front of the house each day, plus her area is #6 which means you can park in a huge area, Eastern Market, Barracks Row, Navy Yard, etc. I know where I'll be staying next time I'm in DC!

    Debra2015-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • Colleen was fabulous to stay with. She made the whole move in / move out process so easy. Colleen's house is so beautifully decorated with wonderful attention to detail. She is so very welcoming and her cat Sophie is such a love. I was hobbling around on a crutch walking the neighbourhood and everyone was chatty, helpful and kind. A real treat to have such a friendly area to be in.

    Lisa2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Colleen was a fantastic host! Not only was she very helpful in getting settled in but she also gave me great recommendations on how to navigate the city. Her home was beautiful and very refreshing! Oasis is a great way to describe the space. Lastly, Colleen is an artist and a great one at that and it was a treat to be able to be around her creative energy over break. Also her cat Sophie is the sweetest! As far as the location, it was a quick drive to the city and a few blocks from popular locales. All in all, I had a great stay.

    Rangoli2015-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • I absolutely loved staying with Colleen (and Sophie the cat!) Colleen was very good about the arrival process and making sure I felt comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying here-it is such a lovely home

    Beth2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Colleen's place was absolutely perfect for the last stop on my trip to the U.S. she was welcoming and friendly, helped in advice for locations, tourist info, food etc. The house itself was lovely, I was able to store some fresh fruit and veg in the fridge. Colleen offered help with anything I needed. I just can't sing her praises enough.

    Sarah2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Colleen was a wonderful host and her home is beautiful, a truly serene oasis in the city. She was extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area and also accommodating to my late arrive and unfortunate abbreviated stay. I would absolutely recommend her wonderful room to anyone. Commuting was also a breeze. You can walk or bike to all the Eastern Market shops and restaurants and there is a nearby Metro for getting to all other points in the city.

    Sally2016-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about Metropolitan Oasis is welcoming, from the first sight of tastefully decorated living room, to the fluffy white towels in the bathroom. As a traveler new to the DC area, Colleen made me feel very welcome in a number of ways. With helpful pointers about the local neighborhood and shopping district, Colleen oriented me to the best restaurants and shops, as well as to highlights of the DC cultural scene. The design of the recently remodeled home is visitor friendly, and all the comforts of home were easy to find. The bed is super comfy, and together with the Zen-like ambiance of pale walls and white curtains, I slept soundly. The neighborhood is lovely. It’s a quiet, residential area, of tidy row homes. The historic Congressional Cemetery is just across the street, offering an open green space that buffers city noise and adds to the feeling of an oasis in the metropolitan. There’s a really cool shopping and restaurant area nearby on Barracks Row. About a five-minute drive away, or 15-20 minute walk. I wished my trip lasted longer, just to try out all the different chef-owned options there. Overall, my stay was very relaxing, and totally fun. Colleen is a great resource to learn about the Washington DC area, and an excellent host.

    Theresa2016-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I was received very warmly by Colleen and found her home and neighborhood as described - comfortable, accessible and safe. I would definitely book for a future stay! Colleen was a wealth of information regarding activities in DC and I explored new territory in a city I know fairly well from previous visits

The English basement apartment is located in a two-unit, three story brownstone. It has one separate bedroom, a living room with a pull-out couch, a full kitchen, a washer and dryer, fireplace, access to an outdoor deck, and off-street parking.
  • This place was just what we were looking for. Very walkable to everything we wanted to see and do in D.C. and there were rental bikes almost right across the street. This was a great value that made our trip to D.C. very economical.

    Devon2016-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was clean and convenient (particularly liked the 7/11 right across the street). Bed was comfortable and the arrangements to get check in worked easily.

    Wayne2018-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was cute. A good size for a couple. The metro stop was right outside the apartment but we took Lyft because we didn't know the stops., and it was farther away from the museums then we expected. However we did walk back one day and it was an hour walk, so not too bad. We had a little trouble with the shower faucet but overall, the place was good.

  • This was my first time staying as a guest at a apartment and I had a amazing experience. The apartment is in a very nice area and you get super fast to pretty much anywhere you want in Washington DC. The apartment was super nice, clean and I felt like home.

    Roy2015-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • This cute little apartment has everything you need for a nice stay in the city. The best thing about this place is the location. It's located in a nice, fairly quiet, residential neighborhood that is pretty close to the heart of Capitol Hill. It's also only a few blocks from The Pretzel Bakery, a little spot with incredible pretzels, coffee, and lemonade. There's a little market across the street, and a large Safeway grocery store a few blocks away. There is a bus stop pretty much right out the front door. One thing that really makes this place stand out is the off-street parking spot in the back. We had a WiFi issue when we first arrived, but Jeffrey responded instantly and resolved the problem quickly. We'll probably stay here again the next time we visit DC!

    Kayla2015-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jeffrey was a great host, the place was exactly as described. Check in and check out was very easy. This was a perfect place for our quick getaway! No issues what so ever.

    Victoria2018-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Jeffrey's place was very comfortable for our weekend in DC. A little far from restaurants and bars but the bus was convenient and Uber's and Lyft's were all around the $10-15 range to get everywhere. There was also a bike rental stand across the street. In addition to the bed and the futon, he had a huge and very comfortable air mattress.

  • We had a wonderful trip! The apartment is close to the Metro, there are also bicycles for rent across the street. Jeffrey messaged us to check that we arrived safely and fixed our connection with the wifi when we had trouble. He was flexible and prompt at responding. My husband and I had a wonderful time AND didn't have to find someone to sit our kitties with the pet friendly apartment!

For those driving we have ample street parking and are happy to get you a parking pass when you arrive.
  • Dawn's place was perfect for our week-long trip to DC! It is a 5 minute walk to the metro, in a quiet residential neighborhood. She had several thoughtful touches, including snacks, laundry detergent, mosquito spray (which was much appreciated!), and metro cards. Her place was very clean and had everything we needed. Highly recommend!!

    Lea2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Dawn’s place was great. It actually felt much larger than we expected from the photos (a nice surprise) and we comfortably fit 4 adults there. Dawn was helpful with whatever we needed, lots of thoughtful touches in the apartment as mentioned by other reviews. Very clean and comfortable, convenient location super close to the metro that goes to major tourist stops. Would definitely recommend!

    Chelsea2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb experience and it was amazing! Dawn and her family were so welcoming and the apartment was so nice. It is much bigger than it appears in the photos. Dawn graciously allowed us an early check-in as we made it to DC earlier than we expected. The communication was phenomenal. Always a quick and helpful response. The neighborhood is very nice and the neighbors seemed like part of the family. They allowed us to use their large backyard and our children loved it. Our children also met and played with their children who are so sweet. This experience was fantastic for us all around, from the complimentary metro cards (which is a 2 minute walk away) to the advice on places to visit to the beautiful apartment which is nicely furnished. This visit topped any hotel stay we have ever had. Thanks again to our hosts and we can't wait to return!

  • We had a great stay here for our week in DC. Very comfy & clean. It was nice to have a good place to rest after a long day of sightseeing in DC. The metro was very convenient & definitely the way to get around in DC. We also liked the ability to cook breakfast & supper to save money & do laundry as needed. Perfect for our family of four!

    Lanette2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Book with Dawn; you wont regret it! The apartment was exactly what we needed for a family of three. Right near a metro and Dawn provided 4 metro cards for us to use during our stay. Toiletries were top notch and all of the items you might need in a kitchen were provided. The snacks were a bonus that my daughter appreciated one night when she was hungry late at night. Parking was available on the surrounding streets even on the weekend. This was our first airbnb stay and we will definitely us it again based on this experience.

    Jennifer2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Dawns place is incredible. The location is awesome, super safe! The metro is super close, you can just walk to it. She’s really nice and doesn’t bother you like other hosts I’ve stayed at. She is quick to respond and just on top of it. Place was super clean and ready for us when we got there! It just felt like home, a great place to rest up and get refreshed after doing all the tourist things in D.C. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, don’t miss out!

    Christian2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first trip to Washington D.C. and it was an incredible stay thanks to Dawn. Although she was out of town, she made sure that check-in was easy, amenities were plentiful, and provided a lot of baby-friendly activities and suggestions. The space itself was clean, beautifully decorated, and full of amenities like a washer/dryer, snacks, pots/pans, towels, shampoo, city guide books, and Metro cards. Dawn communicated quickly, and made sure her parents were available to help us with check in/our while she was out of town. The parking permit made it easy for us to find parking at night, and this place is a quick 3 minute walk to the metro station with access to Downtown D.C. Traveling with a small child is stressful, but Dawn’s suggestions and wonderful home made this a great trip.

Cozy basement studio apartment located in Capitol Hill East; 7 minute walk from the Stadium-Armory metro and 1.5 miles from the United States Capitol.
We like to think our basement is a clean, cozy nook—perfect for short stays. You’ll enter the rear of the home through a tidy storage area (directions provided upon booking). The space is setup like a large studio apartment. In it you will find a small table with two chairs, a generous couch, and TV area are perfect for lounging. Tucked into a corner, you’ll find a very comfortable queen size bed. We love to sleep downstairs from time-to-time when we don’t have visitors and want to sleep in with minimal sunlight coming through! We list the space for two people, but we do have a blowup mattress and sofa that is the size of a twin bed that can be used for kids (or a third guest if you’re good friends I guess). The space also has a private full bathroom. For your convenience there is a small refrigerator, coffee station, and microwave, but not a full kitchen. We have a washer and dryer on the main floor that we can coordinate for you to use. You will be given an access code for the basement door before check-in. We have locks on both sides of the door at the top of the stairs so we can both maintain privacy.
Enjoy the comforts of living on Capitol Hill (1.5 miles to the US Capitol building and the start of the National Mall). Wake up and grab a coffee at Hill Café, our local café at the end of the block, then stroll through Lincoln Park on your way to the Eastern Market farmers market on Saturday and Sunday mornings (be sure to take a detour down Walter Street SE if you want to explore the neighborhood). Take a water taxi from the nearby Wharf to visit Old Town, National Harbor, or Georgetown. Have dinner on H Street NE after a full day of visiting the many local attractions.
  • An amazing experience from start to finish. At check in, my daughter and I were greeted warmly by Rachel and shown to our space. It had everything we could need including a tv with Netflix! It was a very cozy place and decorated nicely. I got some of the best sleep I’ve had in a long time. Good location away from the chaos of downtown which leads to a more relaxing experience. We couldn’t have asked for more! I highly recommend booking with Nat and Rachel for your stay in D.C.

    Anthony2019-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel and Nat were very welcoming and friendly hosts. The whole space was clean and quite comfortable. The Metro was a short walk away, which was extremely convenient. You can definitely hear noise from the above floor, but the hosts would check in to ensure the volume was okay, which I really appreciated. Overall, the space was perfect for my short stay.

    Hannah2019-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • A great basement studio flat with lots of nice extra touches that really made it feel special. Would definitely recommend for a weekend visit to DC.

    Huw2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Best place to stay in DC. Conveniently located, and quiet. Great hosts, even better space!

    Jay-Sarah2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve been using Airbnb for years, but this was my first time using the app for work since hotels were too pricey this trip. I forgot how dependent I’ve become on hotel coffee machines and shampoo when traveling for work. Luckily, Rachel and Nat thought through everything you could need and their space is very clean and cute. Communication was great, and I appreciated all the special touches like the metro cards and a welcome packet. The neighborhood felt safe, as well. Noise wasn’t an issue for me, but as a heads up to future guests you can hear EVERYTHING that happens upstairs. Footsteps, conversations, laughter, etc. It’s to be expected in multi story, older homes, but if this bothers you take note. *They seem very nice though and I’m sure would quiet down if you said something.

    Megan2019-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • The home is beautiful and spacious, it offers everything you need. The location is easy to get to and is close to the metro. If you’re looking for a great size apartment in a quieter neighborhood but is easy to get to the monuments and other local attractions than this is the perfect place.

    Kimberly2019-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • An better than advertised, beautiful little hideaway blocks from the Stadium-Armory Metro stop. Rachel and Nate are amazing hosts — kind, helpful, and generous. The space is stylish and comfortable. I’d definitely stay there again without a second thought.

    Omar2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Nat & Rachel set the bar for hosting. Their home is ULTRA clean, located in a great neighborhood, extremely close to public transportation and within walking distance to many restaurants & cafes. The bed was very comfy, water pressure strong & hot and their communication was second to none. Their information packet (& provided Metro pass) on local haunts & tourist attractions was informative and put together very well. Excellent property and excellent hosts!

  • 10 out of 10 for sure! Emily and Karl’s place was a perfect home away from home on our trip to Washington DC. Perfect location in a beautiful neighborhood that’s just far enough away from the busy city for a quiet, private and peaceful night sleep or even a relaxing afternoon, yet just minutes away from the great monuments, museums, memorials and restaurants the city has to offer. Everything was clean and they have everything that you might need there. Emily and Karl were super quick to respond to messages and really go above and beyond to ensure a great stay. Great hosts, will stay there again in the future!

  • Emily and Karl’s space was so nice! I stayed for 2 nights and they had everything I needed. Only a 10$ ride to the national mall and really easy parking by the house. Loved the separate entrance and self check in. Super convenient having a washer and dryer and even had coffee, tea and a hot plate! Loved the fact that there was a list of places to go for food and drinks too. It was the perfect space for me and my s/o.

Newly remodeled, sunny 1-bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor of a 4-unit building with all new appliances, washer/dryer, new queen size bed, new queen sofa couch, newly constructed deck right off the kitchen, and a new fence in the backyard for privacy and security--and with a fire-pit and BBQ to boot! Easy walk to Eastern Market and H St NE nightlife and restaurants. Lots of drinks, fruit, and other snacks included, and you're free to store your bags with us if you arrive early or leave late.
Private apartment with full kitchen, 55" smart t.v and wi-fi, a queen size pull-out sofa with 3" memory foam topper, and a queen size bed in the separate bedroom with a new Nectar mattress, pillows, sheets and duvet. There is also a queen-sized air mattress (with fresh sheets, pillows, and blankets) if needed for additional guests. It's 700 square feet living space, and 3 people (or 2 couples) can use it comfortably. More than that and it will get too crowded. My favorite space in the apartment is the walk-in shower with a built in bench, a rainfall air-injected shower-head, and stained glass sky-light. It's a total spa experience. We just finished the new wooden deck in the back that opens up right at the kitchen door, and is perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks. We also just fenced in the back-yard for more privacy and security, and are currently working on the garden area and installing a fire-pit. Feel free to light up a (small) fire at night or use the barbecue whenever you like. If our place is full, you can check out our good friend's place right down the street: View On Airbnb1 Bedroom, Private Apt. H St NE - Cap. Hill Area
The apartment is nicely situated between 16th and 17th St. NE, which means it's located about 17 blocks from the Capitol Building (1.7 miles on Google Maps), 10 minutes from H. St with lots of cafes, bars, dances spots, theater, and restaurants, 1 mile to Lincoln Park, and 1.2 miles to the lively Eastern Market. Public transportation (including the free Streetcar on H. St) is close at hand, and bike-shares are just around the corner. The D6 bus line that will take you downtown and to Dupont Circle is one block away, and the closest metro stop is only 0.7 miles away. Regarding Safety: We have lived in this neighborhood for about 10 years and have never had any problems ourselves--but it's important to be alert of your surroundings, especially at night if you're getting home late or checking in when it's dark. The neighbors on the street (and in the back) are very friendly and we look out for each other, but if you're not accustomed to city life and happen to be leaving or coming back late, then it's best to use Uber or Lyft until you feel safe. Check out my friend Renee's Guide to DC. She lives just around the corner and knows all the good places to eat, drink, and visit in the neighborhood: https://www.airbnb.com/things-to-do/rooms/7706099
  • This apartment was a perfect spot to launch our exploration of DC! Transportation by Metro bus or train was easy and very inexpensive. It was an easy walk to the Eastern market and restaurants on H Street. Far East Tacos is just down the street and yummy. We ate there twice! The apartment is snug and comfortable at the end of our long days and the bed was so very inviting. John and Am were happy to provide information and hospitality. We highly recommend this apartment for a comfortable and reasonably priced stay in DC.

    Sandy2018-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • John’s place was hands down the best AirBnB experience I have ever had. The apartment is simply amazing. Here are some of the things I really enjoyed: Bathroom/shower - was amazing. Bed - was super comfortable. Fridge/kitchen - was stocked with breakfast/snacks/fresh fruit. Back porch/yard - is a great space to feel like you are away from the city. Location - less then a mile away from H St. which has everything. Communication - very quick and helpful responses Two thumbs up and I recommend this place to anyone!!

  • We were beyond pleased! We would stay here again.

  • John was great working with us. We arrived early in dc and didn't want to lug our bags around. We were able to leave our bags in his unit till our room was ready. The place was clean, tidy perfect for our one night. His wife cut us fruit for the morning! Everything was great!!

  • John was an exceptional host. The apartment looked just like it did in the pictures and his bathroom was phenomenal. I would highly recommend John and his place.

    Basith2019-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed the lodging, I really do not have to talk. The host was super attentive and very helpful. The apartment was super organized and clean, in a great location. It had everything very close and if uber needed the value was not bad. I really enjoyed it and if I ever go back to Washington I would stay in the same place again.

    Jessica2019-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • John was by far my favorite Airbnb hostess. It was my sister birthday weekend and we wanted to get away. My sister requested for me and my other sister to get her a bottle of Tito and a birthday balloon. And John made this happen. And when I offered to send him the money he declined, and said tell your sister happy bday from us. The apartment was so cute and was accommodating w foods, toiletries, a book telling you about different eateries and all you need to know. John responses instantly when I had a question and the apt was actually ready before hand and he let us check in early and leave late. He and his wife was more than accommodating and I’ve never had such great hospitality from other Airbnb hostess. Apt is not far from a lot of shops, eateries and 15 mins from monuments and tourist stuff. Thanks again John from me and my sisters.

    Alice2018-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at John and Am’s was a great Airbnb experience! They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at home, from stocking the kitchen with snacks and drinks to checking to make sure nothing is needed during your stay. They answered all of my questions, both before the stay and during, quickly. This trip was with my parents; they stayed in the bedroom and said that the mattress was very comfortable. I stayed on the pull out sofa bed... with the mattress topper, it was so comfortable! Didn’t feel like a sofa bed at all! And the remodeled bathroom is the spa-like experience described in the ad. The apartment is in a great location... away from downtown but close enough to get to downtown & touristy things via public transportation or a cheap Uber/Lyft ride. We utilized the free street car on H street (just a short walk from the apartment) quite a bit. I would recommend John and Am’s place to anyone!

  • Very comfortable place to stay in D.C., the proximity to the metro station makes mobility really easy and the cleanness is excelent.

    Alan2017-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline actually made a point to be there when we arrived which by the way was early. Unit as described was exactly what we had expected. Even had bagels and milk in fridge!!! They were very quite even though the lived upstairs. Had several books and other touristy materials for us to explore while in the D.C. area. Metro was only 1 block from the house which was great. Plan on returning in the fall with my wife since this trip was with my son.

  • Karoline was very welcoming and accommodating! From arriving early and allowing us to drop off our luggage to ensuring we had plenty of pillows and blankets. Karoline's English Basement is in close proximity to the DC Metro stop. We took the metro daily. The English Basement on the Metro is one stop away from the Eastern Market, which is filled with restaurants, a weekend flea market and weekend fresh market. The apartment was clean, modern and contained everything to start our day: coffeemaker, small fridge, microwave/oven, and fully equipped kitchenette to make breakfast and metro cards. Karoline also had umbrellas handy, just in case. After a full day of sightseeing, we returned to the English basement for a relaxing evening by the fireplace and Netflix. We enjoyed our stay! Thank you Karoline for being so welcoming, responsive, and accommodating.

We have lived here for 20+ years. Our hood is friendly, green and very very walkable. It's a fantastic location with lots of joggers, and families with dogs and baby strollers around. Very close (5-10 minute walk) to: Metrorail blue, orange and silver lines, grocery stores, dry cleaners, nail and beauty salons, restaurants, yoga, spa, and shared bikes. Moderate distance (10-20 minute walk) to: Historic Eastern Market Barracks Row (tons of bars restaurants and shopping). Short Metro ride (direct, 5 stops or less) to: Smithsonian Museums, US Capitol, Library of Congress, Historic Eastern Market & Barracks Row (if you don't feel like walking).
  • I made a reservation at Lisa and John's place for some colleagues coming into town to work on a documentary. Everything was perfect! The apartment is attractive, well organized and comfortable. it is a great place to get work done and also relax. Lots of attention to detail which makes it so easy for a traveler: spare sheets neatly packaged and clearly marked, good coffee in the cupboard, and a key pad lock that makes check in and out very convenient. Good location for public transportation and a pleasant walk to restaurants and coffee shops. Communication with the hosts was timely and helpful. This is a great deal!

Home was very clean and the little personal touches to give the apartment a modern feel did not go unnoticed! We would definitely stay here again!

    Brittany2018-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa and John are such great hosts. The apartment is spacious, thoughtfully outfitted and offers many little touches to make guests comfortable. Great value. A real charmer.

    Ruth2018-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect! Everything as shown and described. Hubby's favorite part was flopping under the bedroom fan after driving and staying in budget hotels for 4 days of our roadtrip. Very cozy feel and quick response if you need anything, owners are right upstairs. Safe and walkable during the day, it is city so use common sense at night. Parked car on street then took Lyft to National Mall (5-10 min), walked to neighborhood destinations.

    Margaret2018-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Ver nice and well equipped. Convenient to Metro, restaurants and and shops.

Super comfortable 800sq ft remodeled apartment that's one short block to the Metro Rail line that will quickly take you from the Capitol to the White House and all of the museums and monuments along the Mall. You’ll love the quiet location and the neighborhood. Perfect for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families. Central heat/cooling w/thermostat and Washer/Dryer available for guest use.
***Quiet neighborhood with the Anacostia River in our backyard: Walk two blocks to the closest DC Bikeshare station, and cruise 1.9 miles through historic tree-lined streets to the US Capitol. The same Bikeshare is literally located on the Capitol Riverwalk Trail, which stretches from Kingman Island (home to an awesome summer bluegrass festival), to the Nationals Baseball Stadium. If you're up for it, walk two blocks to our neighborhood park, of sorts. Congressional Cemetery (yes cemetery) is a well-maintained favorite for dog walkers, leisurely strollers, runners, and history buffs. If bike rides and cemeteries are too over-the-top, walk three blocks to the Pretzel Bakery, a neighborhood favorite for coffee, hot coco, and what else but freshly baked pretzels, both savory and sweet. ***Equidistant (1.3mi) to three DC hot spots: There is Barracks Row, which runs the gamut from fast food to Rose's Luxury, the eatery recently dubbed "the country's best new restaurant" by Bon Appetit (prepare to stand in line for that one!) For more of a festive "nightlife" experience, there's H Street, NE, which has rapidly grown from a small cluster of neighborhood dive bars, to one of DC's most active hangout spots. Finally, you cant go wrong with the Baseball District, which is home to sports bars, fine dining, our very own Trapeze School, an awesome riverfront park, and of course, Nationals Baseball Stadium.
  • Nkosi did a great job of communicating on a timely basis. The accommodations were excellent. We had privacy and everything was well kept. I look forward to coming back.

    Rich2018-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first time using Airbnb and Nkosi couldn't have been a better host to introduce us to this form of accommodation. His place was a short metro ride to all of the tourist attractions. The metro stop is a short block from the house. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. As to Nkosi's place itself, it was impeccable and we felt at home. Check in and check out was a breeze. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the D.C. area.

    Arthur2017-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • great host, incredible location thx nkosi..

    Emre2018-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The AirBnB was as expected and just like the photos. The check in that day was a bit stressful as we had not rec'd a code, but did catch the housekeeper as he happened to come while we were waiting on the porch. After that, we had no problems. The place was clean and easy to get down to the National Mall area - an Uber was never more than 5 minutes away and costs only about $10.

    Jenn2018-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • Simply put, Nkosi's place is the benchmark of what you would like your Airbnb to be. Great amenities and easy access to the metro and bus lines to help you get around DC. Highly recommend staying there.

  • Great recently renovated apartment a block away from the metro.

    Emily2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and tidy, nicely appointed with extra conveniences such as laundry and an ice maker-handy for the hot DC summer . Short walk to the Metro. Nkosi was a very helpful host. Will definitely recommend to others!

    Sue2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location!!! A 5 minute walk to the Metro. Nkoski was a great host! He was extremely responsive and accommodating. There were a few minor hiccups in the beginning, (bathroom shower and no paper towel and garbage bags in the kitchen), but he took care of them immediately. In the photos, I saw there was a bottle of what appeared to be wine. I inquired about it and not only did he bring one bottle, he brought two. He was very respectful of our privacy, only communicating through AIRBNB IM and leaving items at the door. Although a good experience, there was One HUGE issue. There were some home improvements being done to the roof and we weren’t aware of it until we were awakened early Saturday morning from the banging and walking over our heads. I understand that this is his home and things have to be done, but advanced notice would’ve been nice. Another small thing to note is there appeared to be a lot of moisture in the unit, a small dehumidifier would be a nice addition. Overall, it was a good experience. Would definitely recommend.

Find comfort and convenience in this newly renovated one bedroom English basement apartment. Walk to Metro, Eastern Market, H St, and more! Whether you're from another state or another country, see what Washington, DC and Capitol Hill have to offer!
This English basement is beautifully renovated, and the apartment has a private entrance at the front of the house. The stairway to the main house has a door, which I keep closed and locked. The living space includes windows in the main room and bedroom. There is a kitchenette with a dining table, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, induction hob (hot plate), coffee pot, sink, and dishwasher. The bathroom has a large, walk-in shower. The bedroom includes a queen bed, and additional guests can sleep on a queen air mattress in the living room.
The Kingman Park section of Capitol Hill has something for everyone. Enjoy neat row houses and tree-lined streets. Walk to restaurants and nightlife on H St or shop at Eastern Market (all about a 20 minute walk). Watch dogs and kids play or read a book on a bench in Lincoln Park (15 minute walk). Grab some locally made candy at the Capital Candy Jar (8 minute walk). Walk or bike on the Anacostia River Trail. The Orange-Blue-Silver lines also allow you to quickly get to more local attractions or downtown for work (10 minute walk to Metro).
  • Leah was so helpful and the space was fantastic! Highlights: the space was super clean and only a 10 min walk to Stadium-Armory metro station. Would definitely recommend!

  • We really enjoyed staying at Leah's place. It was very clean and newly renovated. We were easily able to access the metro and the apartment felt very secure. The kitchenette was perfect for our family's needs and the bed was comfortable. It was also great to have access to streaming television options to help us all relax after our busy days and evenings out in D.C. Overall, we were very happy and would stay there again!

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and staying here surpassed what I’d expected. The place was clean, cozy, and convenient. For a studio apartment, I didn’t feel cramped. The host was very friendly and welcoming and provided periodic check-ins to see if everything was ok. The complimentary doughnuts and bottle of wine added a special touch.

So was the neighborhood. I got out and walked one morning a d found a local diner for breakfast. Definitely felt safe as a single woman alone.

Quaint row house with easy access to the Metro (two blocks to the Blue-Orange-Silver lines) and walking distance to Eastern Market (20 minutes) or the US Capitol (30 minutes).
Our neighborhood is just to the east of historic Capitol Hill. Part of that charm seeps over, as we are blocks from Lincoln Park, one of the first monuments to President Lincoln in the country. Just Southeast of us is Congressional Cemetery, with set of it's own famous residents, including J. Edgar Hoover, John Phillips Souza, and Henry Clay among many others. including and the first dedicated gay pride section of a cemetery.

  • The location is great for exploring DC, the room is very clean and comfortable, and Peter and Rusa were both very kind and accommodating, wonderful hosts! We’ll be staying here again next time we’re in DC.

  • We stayed almost two weeks at Peter’s and Ahora’s home. The accommodation was very comfortable and there was nothing to complain about! We can only thank Peter and Ahora for hosting us and wish them all the best! Definitely recommended!

    Imke2018-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great, simple space with en suite bathroom

    Philip2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Peter and Rusa were excellent hosts. They were involved in my trip from the outset and throughout to keep me privy to changes or concerns and to ensure that I arrived safely. They are also very knowledgeable and up-to-date on a variety of topics. I enjoyed the conversations and banter; they made me feel right at home when I wasn't out sightseeing. Their home and the living space (the bedroom) are precisely like the photographs. The bedroom and bathroom are spacious and most of all very clean. I get the feeling that they are big on cleanliness, which I appreciate. I liked the privacy of having own bathroom. Granted my visit was in the winter, their house and the room I occupied were always warm. There's a 7-Eleven two blocks from their home and a few other stores (fast food etc.) Peter sent me a guidebook before my arrival, which I ignored, but I think there's a train or bus station nearby their house. I Ubered everywhere. My Uber fare was reasonable and only took about ten minutes to get to the Capitol. From there I would walk to museums and historical landmarks. The purpose of my trip was to see friends and historic buildings and to experience as much as possible. If I revisit DC, I would love to stay with them again. Though it was their first time, they were excellent hosts.

    Virgillo2017-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Peter and Ahora were excellent hosts! The bedroom was the perfect size and the attached bathroom was awesome. The window air conditioner made the room the perfect temperature throughout our stay. When we first arrived, Peter greeted us and gave us a quick rundown of the place. They also had pamphlets of things to do in DC and places to eat too! Super clean with warm inviting touches. Best part was the location - only a four minute walk to the Metro station. If I ever come back to DC, I would definitely stay here again!

    Ryan2018-07-20T00:00:00Z

We enjoyed our stay there and it was very easy to get around and explore. • Everything about this Airbnb was magnificent! The apartment is perfect for two with plenty of space, and it was the cleanest, tidiest place I've stayed. It has a nice kitchen with utensils, towels, wifi, and a beautiful outdoor space. The neighborhood is so cute and friendly, and the location is super convenient. The metro is a walk away and there's a fantastic pretzel place down the block. I didn't get to met Richard in person because our guest checked us in, but he was always accessible and helpful. I would highly recommend staying here if you're considering it!

Highly functional, newly renovated Capitol Hill row home lower unit. Bright with natural light, not your typical English basement! You'll find our place clean, comfortable, and convenient with street parking right out front. We're two blocks to the Metro and Capitol Bikeshare, and a short walk to beautiful spots like Lincoln park, Barracks Row and Eastern Market. Let us know how we can make your stay in DC great!
We recently renovated our lower unit with a private front entrance, 9 ft ceilings and a kitchenette. We live upstairs and are here to help ! Check-in/out is automated, we have basic needs in the apartment, and we’re happy to respect your privacy or interact. The apartment has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a common room I built to be as functional as possible with a kitchenette (dishwasher, full size fridge with ice maker, microwave, small sink, coffee maker, hot plate, & toaster oven, but NO stove). The common room also has a pull out sleeper couch with clean bedding, a movable island with seating for 4, TV with cable and Apple TV, August Smart lock so keys aren’t needed and locking up is automatic, WIFI, and dimmer lights. I’ve installed a combo washer dryer that you are welcome to use. You enter from the front of the home on Independence Ave. The rental unit shares walls / ceilings with ourselves and our neighbors.
Capitol Hill is a beautiful neighborhood, and our street is no exception. We leave a map with our favorite spots in the unit, here’s what’s around- Stadium Armory Metro station (2 blocks) Capitol bikeshare (3 blocks) Congressional Cemetery (4 blocks) Lincoln park (1/2 mile) Barracks Row restaurants (1 mile) Eastern Market (1 mile) US Capitol (1.5 miles)

Studio flat right next to Stadium-Armory Metro (on Orange, Blue and Silver lines). It it very convenient to Metro and downtown DC. Within walking distance to Eastern Market and Barracks Row.
The space consists of a guest room and bath with separate entrance in back of house. A great stay for couples, solo adventurers, and/or business travelers. A door connects the apartment to the main house through the bathroom, which remains locked from both sides during your stay.
The Metro (Stadium-Armory is our stop) is very close to the apartment, so you have easy access to most places in DC. Eastern Market and Barracks row are great areas with lots of shops, restaurants, and bars. There is a weekend market (at Eastern Market) featuring local vendors and area farmers on Saturdays and Sundays. The Eastern Market/Barracks row area is about a 15 minute walk due west of the apartment (or 2 stops on the Metro). The H St. neighborhood is a popular restaurant and nightlife destination. Uber or Lyft are the easiest and cheapest options for getting to H St. The Capitol and the National Mall can be accessed from the Blue, Orange, or Silver Metro lines, all of which stop at Stadium-Armory, using either the Capitol-South station or Smithsonian. The Capitol-South station brings you near the Capitol and Botanical-Gardens near the East of the Mall, while the Smithsonian Station lets you off near the majority of museums.
  • Sorry it took so long to review this place! I was definitely not expecting to get this good for my dollar. Two day/two night trip was was well worth my stay! Dan and Maggie definitely give you a great stay with the utmost privacy. I couldn’t believe how much space I was getting. The modern bookshelf look, to the awesome shower that waterfalls all your worries away, to the awesome snacks and the cool bookshelf! Dan and Maggie were very prompt and had all my needs taken care of. Parking was the only issue but solved quickly with a parking pass. I loved the cleaning supplies that were left out, even though the place was clean itself I love having the option of wiping down stuff myself if I happen to be such a neat freak. I’m not sure if a microwave and mini fridge were listed but they were definitely provided! The location was so awesome I could cry. 5 minutes walk from RFK stadium. Long boarders, bikers and even walkers!!! You will be so close to the downtown farmer’s market, fresh market, Capitol Hill, and United States Botanical Garden! If you are looking for the heart of DC you got it. My boyfriend and I stayed so comfortably here. Definitely would stay again. Thank you!!!

  • This quaint little apartment was super cute and exactly what I needed for my first time in DC. The metro station was literally one block down from it and I was able to easily commute downtown to all of the sight-seeing spots I wanted. There was a couple of little diners & cafes within walking distance but most places were just a $3 uber or lyft away. Dan & Maggie were super swift on communication and I didn’t even see them the four days I was visiting. Everything I could have possibily needed was provided from dining utensils to hot cocoa to extra blankets and towels. There is no direct control to the A/C but I mentioned I was chilly and they adjusted the temperature for me. I felt very comfortable & cozy. It is a high walk up the stairs to the apartment with steep stairs and that was a little intimidating for me, being afraid of heights, but I managed!

    Deja2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect place for a quick stay in dc. It’s close to the metro and Dan is really great with communication.

  • The room had some ants, a few managed their way into the bed, not ideal, we managed. This space has a great location a stone throw away from a local train station. Not much in terms of nightlife or restaurants nearby, but plenty of Seamless options. It's on the smaller side, so it's very ideal for a traveler who plans on spending the majority of their time outside of the room and is looking for an airbnb to lay their head. My partner and myself visited in early March, two of the walls of the room are primarily windows, so we were rather cold, there's no temperature control in the room, but Dan the host was nice enough to raise the temperature after we asked - a space heater would be a nice addition to the space. The private entrance to the space is also at the top of a little tricky metal stairwell, be cautious if you plan on going up with large/heavy luggage, we arrived on a dark/rainy night, so those steps were a little nerve-wrecking to navigate.

This is simple yet comfortable room in my apartment. The room has great natural light and high ceilings. The room is at the back of the apartment so you enjoy privacy. There is a private entrance at the back of the building if you prefer. The bathroom and kitchen are shared. And I have a wonderful but skittish cat called Puma who may want to make friends with you.
The apartment is on the second floor of a 4-unit apartment building. The building is old but has great 'cachet.'
The neighborhood is quiet, but you can find every restaurant, bar and coffee shops on H street, which is within a 15-minute walk . Eastern Market is also a lively area with a farmer's markets and great restaurants. The apartment is right on a running/biking trail that is over 20 miles long. Kingman Island is a great place to go for a walk and enjoy a great view of the river.
  • Totally recommended!

  • I cannot recommend this place enough! Not only is Flora’s appartment extremely nicely decorated, nearby the metro station and very clean, I would already just recommend it for the fact that Flora is such a welcoming host! As a first time Airbnb user who was also new to DC, Flora made my stay extremely relaxed as she goes above and beyond to make you feel a part of her home and the city! I would especially recommend this place to young female travellers like myself looking for a place to call their home for just a little bit!

  • Great spot - Flora was very friendly and the place was just what I needed. Good location near Capitol Hill. Definitely recommend!

  • Flora was a pleasure to communicate with and very accommodating. Her spot is great and the Armory station access made getting to/from cap hill a breeze.

  • Excellent hostess, very affordable, clean and nice place, and close enough to attractions that you could walk most places. I had a great time visiting.

Guests will stay in a private bedroom with a private bathroom. This is a bedroom upstairs in my row-house. Guests will also have access to the dining and lounging areas in the house There is a comfortable queen sized bed and tv in the room. There is private off street parking available. House is located only 1 block from Stadium Armory subway station. Ring Door Bell installed on front exterior door. Capable of recording visual and audible communication.
The house is located this far from popular places: Stadium Armory Metro Station (0.2 Mile Distance, 5 minutes walking) Harris Teeter Supermarket (0.5 Miles Distance, 13 minutes walking) Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium (0.8 Miles, 18 minutes walking) US Capitol (1.8 Miles, 8 minutes driving) Union Station (2.0 Miles, 10 minutes driving)
  • Great place to stay in DC. Located in a quaint home next to the historic Congressional Cemetery, there is lots to see in the area. Conveniently located near the metro station too. Makes it super easy to get around downtown without having to drive and worry about traffic or parking. Bed was comfy and access to the kitchen made meals or storing leftovers really easy. Charles was also friendly and responsive to messages and questions. Excellent place. Would definitely stay here again.

  • The house was nice easy to find and close to the metro. This is a shared house so having a room with a private bathroom was nice. On site parking was good having our car nearby. Charles was friendly and helpful.

  • Great place for a road-tripper! Normally I would stay at a Hostel but none of the Hostels in DC offered parking. I looked briefly into cheep Hotels, from what I saw none of them offered on-site parking for free. Charles’s place offered free off-street parking and was a short 1.5 block walk from the bus and metro stations. Very convenient place to stay and tour the city on a budget. House was in an average city neighborhood with your typical city-neighborhood noise. The house was clean and very nice. I stayed in the master bedroom upstairs, it truly had the feel of an actual hotel room. The kitchen downstairs was very nice. Charles was easy to get ahold of and quick to answer questions. Overall good value!

  • A great low budget place to stay.

    Bill2017-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great space in a convenient location at a great value. Everything was clean and in order. Charles is very good about quick responses and this unit met all expectations.

    Hal2019-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • The room was comfortable, clean and nice, this is true for the whole house. It has private parking lot and close public transportation. Charles was great, even coming over late night to fix the too cold temperature in the house.

    David2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Charles and his father were fabulous hosts. They came over to the house late, just to let me in. They were very cordial and the home was clean, quiet and in a good location.

    Susan2016-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice area! We loved it, it's close to all the free museums and the main attractions. We drove mostly everywhere so the private parking was very convenient. The house felt very cozy too, Charles was very helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had.

  • This was our first time staying somewhere where the other rooms were rented to different travelers. It turned out to be a really great experience. We never heard the other guests other than the occasional hallway floor creek and everything was very clean and well stocked. The location is great, a 9 minute Lyft/Uber from the national mall.

    Arianna2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Conveniently located near the national mall area of DC. The checkin experience was smooth and Tiffany was quick to reply to messages as well. Overall, great stay.

  • The place is very clean and comfortable, however the sofa bed is not perfect for sleeping on, somewhat hard. Quick responses to questions and very convenient to getting around Washington. Myself and other guests were not aware of spare toilet downstairs till after a about a day, that came in handy, as three rooms share the one bathroom. I didn't meet Tiffany and Marquell personally. Nice place to stay.
