We've converted the first floor sun porch into a bed room - Kitchen, Laundry, off-street Parking, and a shared bathroom. Lovely view of the garden and the beach that is just outside the backyard; you can go swimming at the beach!
We live in an 18 room 160 year old house that was once occupied by just one family! Barney has lived here all of his life, our 4 children grew up here, and we like the combination of a small town dynamic, living on the beach, and still be 20 minutes from the center of the city.
A diverse, residential neighborhood with lots of families and trees. Paths to jog or walk on the beach, easy access to bike rental, food shopping, restaurants, and coffee shops. The neighborhood is old - people who come here, stay here. Large Victorian houses - two city parks - walk along the harbor. 10 minutes away is a local, breakfast spot: McKenna's, open at 5:30 and Savin Bar and Kitchen open for lunch and dinner till about 11. About 20 minutes walk away are several restaurants - Indian, Chinese, Pizza, Vietnamese, Irish, UMass Boston, and the JFK Presidential Museum.

From The Esplanade that edges the Charles River to the Brownstones that line its refined streets. The neighborhood ages with grace. This is a 3rd floor of an old typical boston building. There are 4 private bedrooms in different sizes. Shared areas are a living room, kitchen, and 1.5 bathrooms.
This place is not for everyone. This is not a hotel. There is no breakfast. This is a modest & cozy place in a prime location in the heart of Boston. You cannot beat this location. We worked extremely hard to secure this location. It is not fancy. it's an old building but it has its charm. It only has the bare necessities. People love it because it is practical and functional. Upon booking, you will get the self check in instructions. You will be asked if you understand every step to find your room. Your room is equipped with a large bed, a desk, and desk lamp. You will be sharing the common areas (living room, kitchen and bathrooms) with other guests just like you. Your room will have fresh sheets, & a towel. The common areas are cleaned frequently but we cannot control what other guests do in regards to cleanliness, so please set expectations right. However we take things seriously and do our best to keep the common areas comfortable to everyone and we encourage you to message us if anything comes up. So if you are ok with a private clean bedroom and don't mind sharing the common areas with others, and looking for maybe the top location in Boston, this place is for you. We want to set expectations right, and the best guests are the people who are easy going, world travelers, and open minded. We are chill, and accommodating. If you are looking for something fancy, it's better for you to book a hotel. Please note that only the desk light is currently working
Boston's diverse mix of residents converge on Newbury Street, one of the city's favorite destinations for boutique shopping, casual people-watching, and urban promenading. On Newbury Street, stores occupy the bottom-floors of the neighborhood's iconic Brownstones. When you're looking for familiar indoor shopping, take a brief walk to The Prudential Center. This cleanly-styled mall boasts over 75 high-end retailers. Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Lacoste, Club Monaco, Sephora? Whether lunching, brunching, or evening snacking, Back Bay's mix of cafes, steakhouses, tapas bars, and trendy lounges leave patrons with a good taste in their mouths.

Savin Hill is a peninsula that juts into Boston Harbor. The house is at the apex of the hill, about 110 feet above sea level, yet the harbor is a 5 minute walk down the hill. There is a beach at the bottom of the hill with a wide walkway that connects to a 2 mile walkway that goes around Columbia Point, the location of UMass/Boston, the JFK Library, Edward Kennedy Institute for the Study of the Senate, and Massachusetts Archives. Views from the top of the hill adjacent to the cottage are magnificent, with views out to the open ocean, to the Blue Hills south of the city and into downtown Boston. There are nice amenities next to the subway station (a 5 minute walk), including a great breakfast place/cafe, an ice cream parlor and an excellent restaurant with bar. 5 minutes farther are a great Indian Restaurant, several Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants, a number of pubs, a laundermat, pharmacy, and other stores. The closest supermarket is one subway stop away. The Savin Hill neighborhood is an historic district with dozens of large Victorian houses on circular roads that go around the very rocky hill at its center, which is a 10 acre park that includes tennis courts and a basketball court. The park next to the beach has base/softball fields and a children's play area. The hill has been occupied since 1630, when the Puritans first set ground where the beach is, and was fortified as early as 1640. The rock the hill is made of is the unusual "puddingstone," a glacial composite formed by the retreating glaciers during the Ice Age. Savin Hill is located in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester, which is the largest and most diverse neighborhood in Boston (think Brooklyn). There are lots of different ethnic restaurants (Vietnamese, Polish, Dominican, West Indian, etc., that embellish the great array of new restaurants that have opened in recent years. The area is historic, with the oldest house in Boston nearby, ancient cemeteries, churches, and buildings. And it's only a couple of miles south of downtown Boston, with the Freedom Trail and hundreds of historic sites. The Red Line goes from the South Shore and Dorchester, through downtown Boston, and into Cambridge, passing MIT and Harvard on its way to the northern suburbs.

Spacious room with private bathroom and queen size bed, 3 windows overlooking the garden and the walk to the beach behind the house. Nearby parks, 8 minutes to the Red Line then 12 minutes to downtown, 25 minutes to Cambridge, off street parking. Coffee, tea, milk, orange juice, fruit, Mary's granola, and Barney's signature muffins are available every morning.
We live in an 18 room 160 year old house that was once occupied by just one family! Barney has lived here all of his life, our 4 children grew up here, and we like the combination of a small town dynamic, living on the beach while 20 minutes from the center of the city.
Savin Hill is a diverse, residential neighborhood with lots of families and trees. There are paths to jog or walk on the beach, easy access to bike rental, food shopping, restaurants, and coffee shops. The neighborhood has deep roots - people who come here, stay here. There are lots of large Victorian houses, two city parks, and a path along the harbor. We are a 10 minute walk from the local breakfast and lunch spot, McKenna's, and for dinner and drinks, Savin Kitchen. About a 20 minute walk away is Shanti, an Indian restaurant and Harp and Bard, an Irish Pub, serving the usual fare. The John F. Kennedy Library is located on the water, a very short walk away, as is the University of Massachusetts.
