What you'll do
I will first demonstrate to you the mesmerising process of throwing a basic cylinder on the potters wheel. I will talk you through the basics of getting the clay centred on the wheel and then how to pull the walls up to create a cylinder. Then its your turn to get your hands into the clay and create your own masterpiece. I will be there to help you as you go. Anything you want to keep will be trimmed, bisque fired, glazed and glaze fired and be made available for you to collect at a later date or shipped to you at an extra shipping fee. I am a full-time potter and pottery teacher living and working in McGregor. I started taking pottery classes around the same time I started school (around 5 years old). After finishing University at the beginning of 2016 I moved to McGregor to do a year-long intensive apprenticeship with Paul de Jongh and Nina Shand of Millstone Pottery. In the beginning of 2018, I opened my own studio and began my journey as full-time potter and teacher. I host one day and weekend workshops where I have students who come from all around to learn specific techniques or develop their hand building or wheel throwing skills. I also teach private wheel throwing classes and intensive courses.
Tea, coffee and home made lemon cordial are provided. Feel free to bring anything else you would like to drink.
All necessary studio equipment and materials are provided. I have aprons for you to use.
