What you'll do

We will meet in the Camp Street Cafe where you can "pull your own pint" of Murphy's stout Then you will be seated upstairs where I will present a power point presentation on the history of Irish traditional music I want to show you how it all came about from the origins of trad to the present day while taking in a live music session This interactive presentation covers a range of topics including, important Irish music artefacts, the Celts and the harp, the effects of the famine, Sean O Riada, the Sligo masters, the golden age;1970's, Ceoltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, Riverdance and the future of Irish traditional music. I will talk about Irish history and how the music developed We will pass around different instruments and show you how they work You will learn of the different types of songs & dance and hear some local Connemara Séan Nós (old style) singing After the presentation there will be a trad session A group of young local trad musicians will play a variety of jigs, reels, polkas, mazurkas, hornpipes and more

I started playing fiddle 30 years ago at the Irish Arts Centre in New York. I have studied the history of Irish traditional music and currently play with Dusty Banjos in Galway. I also perform at Ceoltas events and trad festivals all over Ireland. When growing up, I was influenced by the traditional music of the Chieftains , the Dubliners and the Pogues. I am the owner of the Camp Street Cafe and Failte approved Visitor Information Point and am well trained in hospitality I am passionate about Irish Music and culture and have spent over 25 years in the hospitality sector

We will pass around fiddles, bodhrán's, tin whistles, spoons for guests to try out

Where you'll be

We will host the event at the Camp Street Cafe (upstairs) & Tourist information Point where there is free parking for guests
