What you'll do

Have you ever wondered how Dungeons & Dragons started, and why so many people keep playing the 1970s and 1980s versions of the game? You can now make up your own mind about it by playing the 1981 Basic 'Magenta Box' rules for a night with an expert DM and Old School Renaissance game designer. Expect short lived antiheroes, challenges with no obvious or best solution, and a lot of fun as you delve into a legendary dungeon in search for treasure and fame. We will play for about 3 hours, and I will be happy to stay and chat about classic games afterwards if you have questions.

Eric

I am an award winning writer and designer, a veteran of the tabletop games industry in France, and a hopeless Dungeons & Dragons nerd. I have been running games most weeks with friends, colleagues, and strangers for over 35 years all over Europe. I now offer sessions of Dungeons & Dragons in corporate offices. I started D&D with the Basic Set in 1983. Much later, as a game designer, I have explored the roots of our hobby along with the Old School Renaissance community and learned a lot from the early versions of D&D. I can now share my expertise to help you discover a different side of Dungeons & Dragons. Basic D&D is more than the ancestor of the game we play now. It has different goals and challenges, a unique gameplay experience, and shouldn't be dismissed as just "an older version" of Dungeons & Dragons.
