What you'll do
Just wondering in this traditional and cozy city Kyoto is very good, but doing it with a local architect from design perspective could be even more special. Along the hike, we will dive into my favorite area "Okazaki" where it has very nice mixed-atmosphere of traditions and modernism. We will walk from a narrow town-path to a mountain trail visiting different building types such as hidden zen villa, city theatre, huge shrine and mountain temple. The hike covers various buildings all from different time in the history, thus it will give you a good base of Japanese history and culture as well as their effects on the architecture designs. We are also going to enjoy the Japanese gardens of temple/ shrine. While they have various beauties in every seasons and nice water and air, we will have relaxing and deep breathes on our hike. I usually tailor the hike according to the seasons and guests' wishes so please do not hesitate to ask the list of spots we visit and tell me the specific interests/ wishes. I am very looking forward to seeing you on this hike!
Hi travel lovers, I’m Ryohei. I am an architectural designer based in Kyoto and currently completing my MA in architecture design. I always find that it is very exciting and fun to exchange our knowledges when we are on travels, and this is for me to do it in my home town. I am a local person from Kyoto and have lived in Germany and UK where I worked as an architect and designer. It is my pleasure to welcome you to Kyoto and share its very unique architectural and urban aspects, I am very much looking forward to meeting you! Lastly, I would love to answer questions, so please ask me any question you would have about this walk, and please do Not hesitate to ask the available dates even if you would not find them on the calendar. I do it as a side job and will gladly try managing my schedule for our walk. Best.
