What you'll do

Meeting at the Sealock on the oldest canal in Ireland the Boyne Canal Navigation we'll run through a brief safety and paddling demonstration. We'll load up in pairs and using your newly acquired skills head off upstream towards the Battle of the Boyne site. The largest land battle ever in Ireland or England and the last time 2 kings fought for the crown of England. Along the route we'll chat about the movie and TV world and our association with some of the biggest names out there. We'll pass through fairyland and the doorways to the mythical Boyne Valley - birthplace of Ireland's Ancient East and chat about the 5,000 years of history that has shaped a nation and its people. Turning back at the guardlock we'll head back to the start point and finish after approximately 90 mins and 3km on the water.

Ross

Who am I? Hi, I'm Ross and I'm your guide on one of the most unique experiences you'll ever have. Why? After 20 years as a watersports instructor and manager I've landed on the Boyne river just outside Drogheda in County Louth. Having worked as a windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, archery and traditional rowing instructor I now run guided paddling tours on the Boyne using traditional Irish currachs or skinned boats. Not unique enough? The boats I use are in the biggest TV show in the world! I've skippered boats, trained and doubled for cast and dressed up in every costume going!

Where you'll be

The Battle of the Boyne site is only 5km upstream from the historic town of Drogheda and 3km downstream from the world famous Newgrange tumulus. Just 35 mins drive from Dublin airport, 70 mins from Dublin city and 90 mins from Belfast. We are slap bang in the thick of the action. A 325 year old battle, a 270 year old canal, numerous 5,000+ year old burial sites and a beautiful river valley.
