New Orleans Bywater Food & Art Tour

New Orleans, United States

Experience hosted by Michelle

3 hours
Includes food, drinks
Up to 10 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

The Bywater is a neighborhood in New Orleans that has seen a revitalization post-Katrina. The arts and the food and bar scene are the main draws to this bohemian neighborhood that thrives on the soul of our culture. In addition to enjoying four food stops, you'll see cool street art, learn the roots of voodoo and see the site that launched the historic case of Homer v. Plessy. Start with Cajun history told through sausage in flavors like alligator, crawfish, duck or delish pork varieties (tasty house-made veggie/vegan options available!). Taste the Haitian influence on New Orleans in a historic food hall, enjoy a German-New Orleans fusion sandwich on the Mississippi River (a nod to this neighborhood's history) and finish with a secret popsicle pop-up beloved by locals (seasonal dependent). This tour offers a unique look into creole and Cajun classics and the new, innovative direction of our local cuisine. (There is also local BBQ, a po-boy place and a courtyard microbrewery in the neighborhood if preferred to any of the above.) All curated food, cocktails/beer, taxes & tip are included in your ticket so you can sit back and relax! Will accommodate allergies/dietary restrictions if told in advance. Menu above & food stops are subject to availability.

Other things to note:
Tour is all weather so come prepared. Wear comfy walking shoes & bring a face mask.

A New Orleans native, I work with some of my favorite chefs to help you eat like a local! My tours will get you out of the French Quarter to taste and experience what makes New Orleans food culture so unique! I've been organizing food tours since 2013- I worked for Dishcrawl and am licensed as a City of New Orleans Tour Guide and own my own food tour business, which won the 2018 "Learning Experience of the Year in Louisiana" Travel and Hospitality Award (THA)!

this is a great tour. Michelle was friendly, fun and had a great knowledge of the area. she took us to out of the way places that we never would have seen on our own. this was our fifth time to New Orleans and she still surprised us. The food was amazing. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to eat well, see an interesting part of the city and learn a lot.

Michelle was so fun! We had a mix-up with public transportation and were running late. She was gracious to welcome our sweaty, apologetic selve s with calm, kindness and food. :) We were excited to learn more about the city's history and current state, and she shared a lot as we wandered and ate. I expected snack size samples from a handful of places, but she offered us full meals from 3 stops. We ended at a bar with live music that was so much fun and ended up hanging out there for the rest of the night! Michelle was concious of everyone on our tour's needs and interests and made us feel like we were exploring with a friend instead in a cookie cutter tour. This was fun!

We really ate well because our guide actually knows the real places. Was so lively to be in her time in Bywater, just made it easy to see places we might never choose as outdoor types!

Michelle did a great job of working within Covid restrictions and moving things around with restaurant closures. She personalized the experience and gave us lots of insight on the bywater neighborhood and New Orleans in general. Would absolutely recommend.

Michelle is a NOLA native with a passion for her city. She offered us a glimpse into the richness, and uniqueness that is the Big Easy. She toured us around ‘off the beaten path’ to show an authentic side of this wonderful city. We had one fantastic meal after the next. We sample much traditional New Orlean’s fare and she explain the origins of the many branches of cuisine found here. She also versed on its architecture and its history. Highly recommend if you want to experience NOLA like a native.
