What you'll do

Either you are a first time visiting traveller or working in Mongolia for a while, you want to escape the concrete jungle for one day and forest hike into the place where we can experience the freshest air of Ulaanbaatar.
It is right in the heart of Bogd Khan Mountain range, a National Reservation area. It is perhaps one of the few great places you can explore while you are in UB with the help of your local expert’s guide, experiencing some nature without going really far from UB. Our experience will take 3-4 hours depending on our walking pace.

8:00-8:15 Drive, introduce each other.
At 8 am, we will meet at Sukhbaatar square or I can pick you up from your staying hotel.
We will begin our hiking after a 15-minute drive to the Bogd Khan Mountain.

8:15-9:30 Forest hike up to the mountain.
It takes 1-1.5 hours hike to reach the top of the mountain. We will have a warm fellowship, take photos, and talk about interesting topics and insight about the city.

9:30-10:30
We usually spend 30-60 minutes on top to explore, take photos, and have a light breakfast before getting back.

10:30 - 11:30
An hour hike back down to the camp.
We'll arrive back in the city centre before around 12pm.

You’ll definitely appreciate yourself for having such an experience.
Other things to note
-Some hiking paths are quite rocky and maybe slippery. Please wear appropriate shoes preferably with a good grip.
-No toilet available during hiking

Your friendly host Orgil, which is me :), has been hiking for 7 years since 2012. It has been always so fascinating to me to hike in the beautiful nature of Bogd Khan Mountain range.
I was born and grow up in Ulaanbaatar(UB) city. As a citizen of a metropolitan city, it was quite difficult to find nature around us even though Mongolia is a land of beauty. In 2012, while I was studying IT in my senior year in college, I had a chance to follow my dean of the department to hike to the Bogd Khan Mountain for the first time in my life. Ever since that time, I encouraged all of my family members, relatives and friends to hike to this destination. It is the most beautiful and fresh-air nature you can ever find near to the city of Ulaanbaatar.

Where you'll be

"Bogd Khan Mountain / Bogd Khan National Park"
We will walk and hike through the Bogd Khan Mountain Forest. Perhaps the freshest air you can experience in Ulaanbaatar city area. The mountain is only 3 kilometres away from downtown.

"Zaisan Hill Monument - A city observatory"
We can also stop by and visit Zaisan Hill Monument, one of the most historic sights of UB, before or after our exploring to the forest walk. Have modern shopping malls.

This was a great way to get out of the city, see some trees, get some exercise, and see how the people of UlaanBaatar use their local mountain forest park. OG and his brother speak excellent English and we had conversed most of the way up and down the mountain sharing stories. They prepared a traditional breakfast which we had at the top. They also had walking sticks for me which was a nice touch. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
