What you'll do
The experience and activities with Happy Hooves on the farm will vary depending on the time of day. Early morning sessions, guests can be a part of the routine morning chores. Everything from mucking, feeding their morning supplements (first breakfast we call it!), providing fresh water, applying fly treatment around eyes and nose (their "make-up!), and giving them their hay for the day (second breakfast). As time permits, we can also work in grooming. Afternoon appointments will have an opportunity for additional training exercises, grooming, and as time permits, evening chores including mucking, and feeding. Each guest MUST wear close toed shoes (tennis shoes or boots would work just fine), and we will begin the session with safety reminders, understanding the animals, and all visitors are required to sign a liability waiver (and an adult must sign for children under 18).
I am the founder and chair of the non-profit "Happy Hooves". We are an organization that provides horse and donkey therapy to those in need. From Alzheimer's and dementia, to stroke patients, to children with autism and special needs, as well as those suffering depression. Having grown up on a dairy farm in Minnesota, (relocating to Arizona in 1999)I have always had a passion for animals. I have shown many cattle throughout my young life and have a passion to give back to the community. This organization allows me to do just that. Most all of our animals are rescued, and the most recent has come from a kill pen from Texas. Sharing this experience with others, teaching them the gift of healing from horses and donkeys, is truly something I love doing.
