What you'll do
FROM THE CREATOR AND HOST OF "SKETCH YOUR WAY AROUND NEW YORK"! No sketching experience necessary- Beginners, kids & families welcome :) This experience transforms a marvel of urban landscape design into an interactive & personal encounter. We will meet near the 34th St entrance to the High Line for an introduction & some warm up sketching exercises as we overlook the Hudson River & the newly developed architecture of Hudson Yards. We will then ‘take a line for a walk’ along the High Line- a fun and meditative drawing exercise for everyone & a wonderful way to tap into your own unique way of making marks in response to your environment. We will explore the new Hudson Yards development, the controversial “Vessel”, “the Shed” & surrounding installations. Depending on crowds we may enter the Vessel for sunset views over the Hudson! The experience is different every time depending on the day and the needs of the group, but whether you are a practicing artist or have not drawn since childhood, it is always an enjoyable & inspiring way to take in this wonderful example of landscape design & respond to it with imagination, inspiration and your own unique way of seeing.
I am a New York based artist (MFA, BFA) inspired by the visual energy of Manhattan street life. As a teacher and guide I draw upon my background in both art and yoga and approach sketching as a daily practice available to anyone regardless of talent or training. I love hosting meaningful experiences with guests from diverse backgrounds and sharing in the creative process. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing eyes opened wide and having my own eyes opened wider in the process.
