What you'll do
A walking experience through Esquilino, the most popular and multiethnic district of Rome. We meet at San Giovanni (subway stop “San Giovanni”) in front of the cafeteria “Le Foodie Cafè Bistrot” at Appio Square. First we have a typical italian breakfast in a cozy cafe not far from St. John Lateran Basilica. After a walk we’ll arrive to an historical Bakery for a delicious Roman pizza experience. After dessert and pizza, we will head towards “Giovanni Fassi’s Palazzo del Freddo”, the oldest and biggest gelateria, with the most authentic handcrafted gelato in Rome in Principe Eugenio street. An area of 700 mq., where, we’ll discover the secrets of this authentic gelato taste. During the tour we will discover the story behind the 137 year old Fassi family-run business, going in the laboratory during working hours, assisting the process of gelato making next to the gelatieri masters, and most importantly…. tasting freshly made gelato. After the laboratory, the tour will conclude with gelato tasting (gelato cup and “Sanpietrino”: typical semifreddo which is inspired by and named after the Roman roads paved with sanpietrini their roman cobblestones) .
My name is Laura, I was born in Rome and I love my city. I am an artist. My passions are all art forms: from movies to painting and cooking. My ability to cook derives from my grandmother. Her background working in restaurants both in Puglia and Rome has helped me become a better cook and to experiment new recipes. I loved to work in the pasticceria, my grandmothers shop, all over Italy, and abroad. A walk throw a typical district of Rome, the Esquilino, to taste roman traditional food inside the oldest foodstalls in Rome. The tour inside the Fassi laboratory can be carried out ONLY if the group is composed of at least 4 people or more. Please, verify before booking.
