What you'll do
The Viñales Valley is famous worldwide for cultivating tobacco using traditional methods. The tobacco plantations are smaller in scale, and mainly family-owned businesses. They use a sun-grown tobacco method. We will visit a farmer's property to learn about the tobacco process from the very beginning, from the seedbed to the plantations to the drying barn. When in season, it is possible to see workers harvesting or sewing leaves to the poles inside the barn. Then, we will visit the place where tobacco leaves are sorted and stripped. All of the leaves harvested and treated at the farm will begin their manufacturing process here. You'll get the chance to roll and taste a handmade cigar, too.
We are Daily, Ruben, and Duarte, and we grew up in the Pinar del Río province, running through tobacco fields, filled with the aroma of fermented leaves and our grandparents' handmade cigars. We even spent time helping local farmers plant and harvest their tobacco. At university we trained in foreign languages and nature guide careers. Today, we work for the Viñales Valley World Heritage Site.
