What you'll do
Make candles with Brooklyn chandlers, Keap. Learn about candle making from one of Keap's candle-pouring experts, and make candles to take home. Come make a couple of scented candles with Keap, and learn about the history of fragrance and candle making. You'll smell different fragrances, learn about wicking and wax, and pour your very own scented candles. I'm one of the founders of Keap candles, and I'll be on hand to guide you through the process of making your finished, fragrant products—you'll make two 2.5-ounce, hand-poured (by you) scented candles. We'll have some drinks and snacks on hand from other local Brooklyn vendors.
We started Keap by making candles in our kitchens, and graduated to a fully-fledged candle studio in Brooklyn. We've learned a thing or two along the way, and want to share our love for fragrance and candle making with you. We make all our candles using the most sustainable materials possible, and we partner with SolarAid to eradicate kerosene lamps. We recently achieved B Corporation status for our efforts to make better candles.
Tasty treats We'll provide some delicious snacks from a local bakery. Gluten allergies can be accommodated if you let us know…
Refreshments We have complimentary water, wine, and sake on offer.
Equipment and supplies Everything you need to make candles is provided, and you will take two candles home with you.
Where you'll be
The workshop happens at the Keap candle studio, where we make hundreds of candles a week and ship them out across the country. You'll learn more about each step in our own process through mimicking it in mini-candle form. Our studio is located at Industry City—a thriving hub of Brooklyn food, business, and creativity. You may want to arrive early to take in the food court, chocolate manufacturers, and more.
