What you'll do
This tour is a unique way to discover Lisbon through the flavors and history of its restaurants, cafes, small taverns and grocery stores. We'll give voice to chefs, grocers, cooks, true experts of well serving food art. We'll keep in mind the main aspects of the Mediterranean diet, now listed as a UNESCO heritage: fresh, local and seasonal produce, olive oil as the main fat for cooking; coexistence among the people at the table. During the tour you will have the opportunity to go where Portuguese usually eat and you will taste about 16 different types of food and drink. We start in a former convent, now brewery, tasting "ovas" (fish roe), octopus salad, cod with corn, lupins and beer. We'll continue in the café of José Avillez, the first Portuguese to receive one of the most prestigious awards in the world of gastronomy. Here we will enjoy the famous pastel Lisboa and portuguesinha. After enjoying a traditional soup , we'll have an healthy salad, cod fishcake, a bifana, a glass of wine and peixinhos da horta, which created tempura in Japan! We'll finish the tour with a traditional sweet, a tasty coffee and a toast of Ginjinha in a popular Mouraria tavern. Enjoy! ;)
Hello! My name is Paulo. I graduated in Anthropology and Tourism Management and now I run a local tourism agency in Lisbon. I am a true “alfacinha” or resident of Lisbon because I was born and have always lived here. I love its light bathing, its unique tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Above all, I like its simple inhabitants and their way of living and eating, so different and tasty at the same time. Lisbon is a city with a very ancient history where each restaurant and cafe' hides its legends. And I would like to share these secrets with all the visitors!
