About your host

I'm an architect who loves Rio de Janeiro, traveling, and meeting people. During my career, I worked on retrofitting historical buildings and urban environment projects. My idea with this experience is to combine my passions and create a discussion about the quality of spaces in our cities and the preservation of our history.

What we’ll do

Rio de Janeiro is a city made from a lot of layers, and sometimes it is hard to identify the old, historical city in the modern metropolis. During this experience, we will walk by the most important buildings in the downtown area of Rio. We will start at the public square, Cinelandia, and walk to Cais do Valongo—Valongo Wharf. You will embark on a journey through history with me, where I will tell…

What else you should know

Bring your camera, sunscreen, water, and a snack.

Where you'll be

We'll meet at Cinelândia Station, and have an overview of Rio Branco Avenue history. Then, we'll walk through Santa Luzia Street and turn at Museu Histórico Nacional. We'll keep going, past Marechal Âncora Square, Praça XV, Arco do Teles, Candelária, and the base of Mosteiro de São Bento. Finally, we'll arrive at Cais do Valongo.
