What you'll do

A day trip in a classic vintage VW Microbus (called a 'Kombi' here in Australia). We will visit outstanding places in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains west of Sydney, avoiding the crowded tourist spots! This is ordinarily a SATURDAY or SUNDAY tour, because that is when the wineries are open. But I can certainly plan a tour for your group on any WEEKDAY—please just ask! Instead of wineries, we can do a picnic lunch somewhere. From Sydney this Experience is a day trip. You will need to catch an express—but scenic!—train to the Blue Mountains. The train takes up to one hour and 40 minutes and costs about $6.00 (and much cheaper on Sundays!). I will arrange with you to meet at one of the quieter Blue Mountains train stations. If you are staying at one of the many hotels and B&Bs in the Blue Mountains, I will happily pick you up from your accommodation. Once aboard 'Helga', my 1975 VW, we will make our way in retro style toward the stunningly pretty Megalong Valley. Along the way, we will stop at places of scenic splendour—the kinds of views for which the Blue Mountains are famous—and visit waterfalls. We'll take a lunch stop—perhaps a local cafe or a picnic, depending on the weather and your preference. Then we'll drive down into the Megalong where we'll walk in some ancient rainforest, visit a secret cave, call in at a vineyard or two, and see some local kangaroos.

(Latest fire news - 8 Feb - the fires are officially OUT. We've had good rain, LOTS of rain. Waterfalls are pumping! We're OPERATING AS NORMAL.) I live locally in the Blue Mountains, so my knowledge of this beautiful area will give you a deeper understanding of the landscape — I will take you to hidden places that Sydney tour companies don't even know about! I have a background in natural sciences and have worked with the national parks service and other environmental agencies. I maintain a classic 1975 VW Kombi Microbus which I use for for tours and events. As well as going on a cool ride, you will see spectacular but less-crowded places in the Blue Mountains. On weekends, we can visit boutique vineyards in a picturesque valley. On weekdays, we usually pick up some supplies and have a picnic somewhere
