What you'll do
We'll explore the cultural richness of Boston's South End like locals. We'll meet a handful of artists at work at their SoWa studios, and see their art. The SoWa Art & Design District is Boston's leading arts destination, garnering recognition on a global scale. Departing SoWa, we'll walk through Boston's historic and eclectic South End neighborhood, learning about its architecture, the Villa Victoria community and public art. We'll visit Boston Center for the Arts and the Syrian Grocery. We'll work up an appetite and stop in at the bar of one of our favorite ethnic restaurants for a bite and something to wash it down. We'll end up at Wally's Cafe, one of the oldest family owned and operated jazz clubs in existence with an 'underground feel.' Wally's is surrounded by some of the nation's most prestigious music schools and is therefore known as the "training ground" for the next generation of jazz greats. The featured SoWa artists include: Hannah Blount: www.hannahblount.com Caroline Bowden: www.bowdenart.net Duken Delpe: www.dukeofart.com Nasser K: www.nasserk.com Brian Murphy: www.facebook.com/groups/130809814063/about
Stephanie And Felipe
We like to think of ourselves as citizens of the world, and wherever we land, we seek out--and participate in--arts happenings that speak to us. Stephanie, who has been involved in projects in Mozambique, Venezuela and Haiti, has made her career in the arts, starting her own programs and organizations along the way. Felipe, a Chilean and born storyteller, works in international public health but helps out with tours when he is not overseas. We are also global foodies and love living local!
