What you'll do

Get ready to go back in time to the 1920's Downtown Los Angeles as we visit some of the original speakeasies still in operation and new hidden gems that even locals don't know about. At the first stop, look to your left and see the exact booth where notorious gangster Mickey Cohen sat as your passionate local guide explains the dark and seedy history of this prohibition boomtown at one of the most famous speakeasies of them all. After you finish your drinks (and maybe even their famous french dip sandwich), walk a few blocks and learn about the complex underground tunnel system that connected the speakeasies of yesteryear. We'll even take a look at the infamous "Murder Hotel" that inspired American Horror Story. Our second stop will be at a recently reopened speakeasy hailing from the early 1920's. Enjoy live jazz (Wed-Sat only) and toast to the end of prohibition with craft cocktails. Our third and final stop will transport you to a unique LA institution, hailing from the early 1930's, that is filled with taxidermy, live jazz (Fri/Sat only), and a hidden Tiki bar speakeasy in the staircase. Itinerary subject to change. No alcohol included in the price of the tour. 21+

Austin

After studying history at Oxford University, I returned to Los Angeles where have worked in tourism for the past four years (including as a Disneyland Tour Guide). My passionate local co-hosts (Sam, Polly, Ryan) and I created this one-of-a-kind tour to share the seedy history of Los Angeles with you over a fun night of prohibition cocktails at HISTORIC bars opened from 1908(!) to 1939 - including a REAL 1920s SPEAKEASY! We are a group of 4 passionate lifetime scholars, each well-versed in the history of prohibition and L.A. Much of my research centers on Southern California and, when I'm not seeking out LA's best bars, I host a popular history podcast called Fastpass to the Past. My 3 Co-Hosts specialize in all types of history including fashion (Polly), murder (Sam), and Hollywood history (Ryan), so every tour is sure to be unique!
