Eri

Hi, I grew up in Kobe, Japan, studied in the USA, and worked in Singapore. I recently came back to my hometown and had the chance to get in touch with kenbu—Japanese sword dancing. My grandfather founded the kenbu school, Dai-Nippon Kikusui-Ryu, and my mother is now head of the school. Even in such a lucky environment, I don't practice kenbu. But don't get me wrong—I love kenbu, and I thought I could share this great traditional practice by telling others about it. I would like to support traditional Japanese culture in my own way.

Where you'll be

First, we will visit Minatogawa Shrine, where the great general Masashige Kusunoki is deified. We'll learn about the history and the relationship between this shrine and kenbu. After that, we will go to the community center and meet the kenbu masters.
