About your host

After teaching for twelve years, working for Habitat for Humanity Costa Rica, and then in administration at a university, I found myself in wine country with a yearning to learn about it. Thus the journey began thirteen years ago. What we’ll do

Meet your hosts in the vineyard for a detailed look at the life of a Zinfandel grape (and maybe Chardonnay and Cabernet as well!). We’ll look at the soil causing rootstock selection, talk about what makes the vines strong, look at pruning and trellising choices. We’ll examine the stages of the grape, and when to pick. We’ll talk about grape contracts and how they work. Next, up to the olives…

What else you should know

Bring appropriate vineyard wear. Terrain is not difficult but uneven. Tennis shoes, hiking boots, or wellies. Meet at the barn on site. We have goats, chickens, and farm dogs, so absolutely no pets.

What I’ll provide

Snacks
EVOO, crackers, wine* *Wine pours will be samples and not full glasses!

What to bring

Appropriate Clothes & Vineyard Shoes/Boots/Wellies depending on weather conditions
Due to farm animals and territorial guardian dogs, no other dogs/pets are allowed on our property.

Where you'll be

We'll start with a quick hello to goats Lola, Hannah, and Ivy, as well as the chicken coop gang. Walk the Zinfandel vines to the back block where we'll also take a peek at the Cabernet and Chardonnay rows. Next we’ll head to the olive hillside to walk the young trees, and lastly head back to the wine room to look at the home wine making process and sample this year's olive oil. Note: I've cancelled on guests 1x, due to heavy smoke last Fall.
