I grew up in a beach town in Northeast Florida. One summer, they put up a net and we started playing. The second I stepped on the sand, I was hooked. I started playing more than six hours a day, seven days a week. Then I went to USC and discovered the amazing LA volleyball community. I played every weekend for more than 10 hours. Then, I founded the SC Beach Volleyball Club team to make sure everyone at SC could play the game. Since then, I have played volleyball three times a week against some of the best players in the area. I hope to be that old guy beating up on people decades from now.

Where you'll be

We'll play either at Ocean Park or Manhattan Beach. Ocean Park is a personal favorite and has dozens of people playing on any given weekend. Nestled between Santa Monica and Venice, Ocean Park is the perfect place for some volleyball before visiting those two iconic LA areas. Manhattan Beach is the volleyball beach for experienced players. On any given weekend, just off the boardwalk, you can watch Olympians take on all comers.

Please bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat—I usually bring extra, but better safe than sorry. Also, try to bring sunglasses. They aren't necessary, but they definitely make it easier.
