You will dive right into the most iconic paths of Kyoto’s Gion district. You will discover the local lifestyle of the Geishas district and experience another side of Kyoto, off the beaten tracks. I will tell you more about the history of these back alleys and secrets streets. Find out what everyday life looks like here in Kyoto, and how people live in the traditional "Machiya", the iconic wooden houses of Kyoto. I will also take you to my favorite local craft shops and introduce you to their lovely owners.

Hey, I am Pierre from France !! I have been leaving in Kyoto since 2012 and I now want to share with you my passion for my new hometown. I will take you to the most iconic and secret streets that only local people know about.
I became a huge history buff since graduating Japanese civilisation studies at Waseda University in Tokyo. I also guide travelers all over Japan for work. I can definitely help you understand better Japanese esthetics.
My hobbies are photography, watching movies and eating food. If you are a ramen lover like me, I can share with you my favorite noodle shop in Kyoto

Where you'll be

We will kick things off with a tour of the former red-light district of Kyoto: Gojo-Rakuen. Today, this area is home to many Machiya houses which have been remodeled into guest houses, as well as a number of tea houses that are now home to boutique craft shops and cool cafés, giving this hip area its rising trendy reputation. After this, I will take you to a real wood maze - where many traditional craftsmen live off their arts.

This tour was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Kyoto. If you are only in Kyoto for a few days like I was, please make sure to book this experience. Pierre has professional experience in touring but this did not feel touristy at all. His tour was a good mix of learning the history of the Kyoto and also seeing a side of Kyoto that you wouldn't see in other tours. He walked me through the different districts of Kyoto and showed me alleys/local craftsmen that I wouldn't have known if not for this tour. The whole experience was well thought of and well planned.
