What you'll do

On this tour from Dupont to Shaw, two of Northwest DC's liveliest and tastiest neighborhoods, you'll get a taste of the city's vibrant local food movement, literally and figuratively, as well as experience a bit of DC culture and history. German brewmaster Christian Heurich drank a beer a day and lived to be 103. He also made a fortune on it and built a beautiful castle in DC. We'll start at the Heurich House for a quick tour of the exterior, before moving onto the Dupont's Farmer's Market, one of the few in the area to operate year-round. We'll have a chance to chat with farmers, cheesemakers, brewers and distillers, and sample and purchase their wares. We'll make a stop at the fountain at Dupont Circle, and share information about DC lore & culture, while you enjoy a snack. Next, we'll take a public bus to the LeDroit/Shaw area, a historic African American neighborhood, stopping at a no-name corner known for pumping go go beats, DC's unique homegrown sound. We'll walk a few blocks to visit the historic Howard Theater and murals before our final stop, Right Proper Brewery, a neighborhood brewpub to sample tasty yeast-focused beers and artisanal cheeses. Bon appetit!
