About your host

I am a published outdoor guidebook author and have lived in the Portland area since 1996. I've written five books on hiking, camping, tourism and food. I'm also a tour guide, entrepreneur and occasional taxi driver. Also, one of my books was about places to eat breakfast in Portland, so I can totally hook you up for your morning meal.

What we’ll do

We will spend the day hiking in the amazing nature around Portland. We might go to the mountains, or the ocean, or out in the Columbia River Gorge. I will pick just the right spot for a challenging but highly rewarding hiking day. I also host the "Perfect Portland Hiking Day," which is a little easier day of walking. This one will get your heart and legs pumping, but that just gives us more…

What else you should know

Bring rain gear, shades, lunch, camera, water bottle and your favorite snacks. It's also a good idea to bring a second pair of shoes (like sandals) to wear on the way home, but that's optional.

What I’ll provide

Snacks
Trail Grub I will bring some bars, nuts, fruit, etc.
Drinks
Water I will bring water and something else for after the hike.
Transportation
Driving I'll get us to the trailhead and back.

What to bring

Lunch
Camera
Your Favorite Trail Snacks
Rain Gear
Hike-Appropriate Clothing
Sturdy Hiking Shoes

Where you'll be

Mount Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, Mount Saint Helens or out at the Coast -- I am a published guidebook author, so I know the trails around here. I will pick just the right one for you and for the time of year.

Things to keep in mind

Cancellation policy

For a full refund, cancel at least 7 days before the experience is scheduled to start or within 24 hours of purchase.

Communication policy

Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside of the Airbnb website or app.

Guest requirements

Up to 3 guests ages 18 and up can attend. You should be able and prepared to hike up to 8 miles and gain up to 3,000 feet of elevation. Won't always be that much but could be.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

More tips

Bring rain gear, shades, lunch, camera, water bottle and your favorite snacks. It's also a good idea to bring a second pair of shoes (like sandals) to wear on the way home, but that's optional.
