What you'll do
We´ll meet at the city center and take public transportation to my family´s house. There’s no better place to show you our daily lives than in our family kitchen, where you’ll learn how to cook some homemade Cuban croquetas and we’ll talk about everyday life on the island. Cubans love croquetas. We serve them at birthday parties. We cook them on the weekend for family dinners. We eat them while playing dominoes, drinking or doing a cookout. Making them is a process where the whole family can lend a hand. Gaby’s mom is a pro at making croquetas. You´ll get firsthand knowledge about Cuban cuisine and she will share with you her recipe so that you can make croquetas at home. I know you’ll come for the croquetas but you´ll stay for the conversation and exchange with our family. During the experience, we´ll talk about how we get by in this island full of complexities and contradictions, but that we still proudly call home. We hope you leave with a different perspective on life in Cuba, as seen through the eyes of an average family. If you’d like, you can contact us and we´ll share with you if there are ingredients that you can bring from your country that may be hard to find in Cuba.
