What you'll do

In this workshop, I will not only teach you how to write beautifully, but also how to experience the joy of carving a handcrafted seal. You will create a design using your name. During this activity, your mind will relax and you will experience healing through the slow analog, tactile sensibility of everyday life. I will teach you how to design and carve your name with a engraving knife on a small stone.
First, I shows two ways to engrave the seal and demonstrates how to carve with a carving knife.(straight line, circle, etc.)
Then I helps you learn to hold the engraving tool and practice properly.
Next, I show the way to design the names and help to design according to syllable of name.
You go for it and then cover with ink of Korean style and take a stamp.
Once the engraving is over, you can choose a elegant case for your stone seal. It will be an opportunity to rethink the meaning of your name that you have forgotten while carving the seal. When you return home, you'll enjoy looking at the stamp you carved and remembering your travels.
I'll write down a message for you in K-calligraphy after you have stamp your seal on a postcard I prepare.

You have to park the public parking lot when you use a car.
Public transportation is convenient.
Let's meet in front of Anguk Station, Subway Line No. 3, Exit 6.
Other things to note
-The name stone is not as hard as you think.
-Even a 10-year-old can use a tool to carve an own seal.
-It is possible for families to enjoy Korean culture together.

*You can wear a face mask and participate in the experience if you need.
*We are offering hand sanitiser .

After leaving the bank as finance minister, I learned about calligraphy and handicraft painting prints. I'm living a life that's changing little by little. I am a professional calligrapher and print artist, and I received the Encouragement Award at the Seoul Women's Craft Competition in 2013 and the Excellence Award at the KT Women's Entrepreneurship Competition in 2014. It has won three awards at the annual exhibition of South Korean books. I teach in various organizations and have registered two intellectual properties in my design work. I published my own "The Power of Calligraphy" in March 2018. My stories and works were introduced on M BC TV, LG U+ TV, and Korean TV.
Also, my story of starting a new life by engraving my name on calligraphy and stone was introduced in several magazines.
I'm looking forward to meeting you online.

Where you'll be

My studio is on the third floor of Tongmungwan, the oldest bookstore in Korea, which first opened in 1934.
It is 3 minutes from Exit 6 of Anguk Station, Subway Line No. 3.
Together we will look around old and rare books in the oldest bookstore.
And you'll carve your name's design on a stone in my studio.
It will be enough to experience Korean art and culture.

Helen really inspired me with her life story and beautiful work. She’s a very patient teacher and made this workshop genuinely fun and relaxing! I also made a new friend which was a great bonus. I’ll definitely try to attend one of her other workshops soon!

This is a perfect activity go do while in Seoul! Helen is an amazing craftswoman and does an awesome job of teaching the art of stone seal carving as well as engaging the group in discussion. The final piece you get to take home will be both unique and irreplaceable. Added bonus was being able to make friends while attending the session! As a solo traveler, this was a great way to meet others! The area surrounding the studio is also rich with activity and sights to see so plan some time either before or after the class to walk around and explore!
