What you'll do

Participants will meet me and my partner, Andi, at Parque de La Alameda. When you arrive to the park, walk to the famous waterfront, El Malecon, and look for the large yellow "CUBA" sign. From here, we will head to the famous El Cobre Basilica which is located just outside of the heart of the city. On our journey we will learn about the AfroCuban traditions of Santeria & Ifa-including the syncrotism between El Cobre de Caridad, the patron Saint of Cuba, and the African goddess, Ochun. After paying our respects we will visit a nearby town where Africans ran to the mountains to escape the terrors of slavery. We will then head to the predominantly AfroCuban neighborhood of Reparto Nuevo Viste Alegre where you will receive a "consulta" (spiritual reading) & energy clearing from a practicing Santero or Babalawo. We will then visit the famous "Calle de Santeria" which is located nearby to learn more about some of the important materials used in African spirituality practices like cigars and rum. Finally, we will return to Parque de la Alameda where we will have a cerveza bien fria from the hosts' favorite local beer stand and make a toast to new friends and unforgettable memories.
