What you'll do

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure through time in the stunning Peak District National Park!

Climb to an ancient hill fort with views in every direction, and descend down a gorge where walls of limestone tower either side, and a medieval castle looms overhead. Traverse the wide-open plateaus above the valley, and hear about the miles of caverns and mines that lie just below your feet, home to tales of myth and mystery, danger and death. And a spectacular mineral found nowhere else on Earth!

Discover how this incredible landscape has seen dramatic changes over the millions of years since it was formed, including at the hands of people that have lived and worked here for millennia. From the first settlers of the area to Roman lead miners, Victorian mineral hunters and twentieth century trespassers, now you can become part of that story.

This is a fantastic circular hike that will leave you marvelling at the Peak District's beauty and history.

This is a dog-friendly walk so please feel free to bring your furry friends along!

Other things to note:
Be prepared for changing weather and please pack food and water. This is a medium level walk with the possibility of some tricky footpaths so good footwear is highly advisable.
The walk does not include entry to the castle or caverns.

As an amateur historian with a love for adventure, I've been exploring these hills and dales for as long as I can remember, eager to uncover how such a beautiful natural landscape has been shaped by human hands. I'm a passionate local guide with a knack for knitting histories together and knowing what a lot of other locals don't even know!

Where you'll be

We'll meet at the foot of Mam Tor, and take a route that includes all of the main features of the area and some of the lesser known paths.

Suitable for those with a moderate level of fitness. There are some hills involved but nothing very high.

The distance is around 10km, or 6 miles, and usually takes around 3-5 hours, depending on group fitness, breaks and the weather.

This is a dog friendly walk - they'll love it!

We had a brilliant time with Oliver on the Mam Tor and Castleton walk. He was friendly and knowledgable and took us on a brilliant route that we wouldn’t have accessed or known about without the guided tour. We loved all of the extra snippets of information about the peaks and the area. We would recommend this tour. Thanks, Oliver!
