What you'll do

You and your party will trek with Llamas and Alpacas on a private wilderness trail. The experience is on technical terrain on the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere.

Treks starts off with a familiarity session on how to lead a Llama or Alpaca at the barn.
Following the familiarity session, we leave from the barn. There are over 10 kms of trails and we choose a suitable route depending on the season and weather. We have a special groomed route for winter when there is snow and follow various other routes.
During the trek guests are encouraged to take as many photos as they want.

Groups are limited to people that are in your own "Bubble" to comply with COVID protocols. We will all wear masks while introducing the guest to their Llama or Alpaca and the masks may be removed once the trek has begun.

Following the trek you get the opportunity to meet the rest of the llamas, feed them and meet the mules, sheep, chickens.

We have only seen smiles from all who have taken a trek. Llamas have a special quality of bringing a calming effect on trekkers. You will enjoy a wilderness hike on our private trails that the public does not have access to. There are many other animals and birds that you may have the opportunity to view or see their tracks. The trails have lots of elevation changes, exposed rock and some dirt sections. You will leave knowing you made a new soft & furry friend.

Mary and Keith went Llama Trekking 15 years ago and never stopped talking about it. We want to share our joy of llamas and alpacas with others. They have such a calming demeanor that can only be experienced in person. As a Registered Veterinary Technician, Mary has been working at the University of Guelph with animals for over 40 years. Keith had horses as a child and the passion for animals lasted a lifetime.
Mary and Keith are avid outdoorspeople who love dog walking, hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, mountain biking, kayaking and camping.

Where you'll be

Forty Hills Ranch is situated on the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere, it is a World renowned area for its natural beauty. We live in a dark sky area with crystal clear waters. The property consists of 137 acres that can only be accessed by guests, the public does not have access to any of it. This makes trekking even more personal and secluded. The property has a variety of tree species, plus birds and animals, including the massasauga rattlesnake.

Thank you Keith and Mary again for such a great and intimate experience. I see why you don’t do big groups on the hike now. We were able to have such great conversations while hiking with the alpacas. And afterwards, we got to feed the other animals on the farm which was pretty neat as well. This was definitely a memorable experience for us and I would highly recommend this to anyone who’s interested. Message from Karen: “Keith and Mary made me feel like a Disney princess.”

The trekking with Keith, Mary and the alpacas was such a fun, unique experience! As hosts they were super friendly and so inviting. You can tell they love the animals and we were so grateful to join them on the farm! Would highly recommend it and would even do it again when in the area next!

What a wonderful and unique experience! Keith and Mary are fantastic hosts and their property is ideal for trekking. Their menagerie of animals (alpacas, llamas, sheep, chickens and mules) were fun to interact with. Feeding the alpacas and llamas were a real treat, as were the kisses from Ice capp! Highly recommend!

It is far better than anyone would expect with perfect hosts. What better way to spend sometime outdoors with beautiful friendly animals. It was truly love at first site when I met the Alpacas and Lamas.

Keith and Mary are super friendly, patient and considerate, we had a wonderful time there and had lots of fun with Llama, alpaca, chickens and dog. The private trail is of decent length, quite and pretty. The llamas are very docile and cute. I would definitely recommend this activity to my friends.
