What you'll do

Beautiful rural Ireland and only 30 mins from Kilkenny City and 25 mins from Waterford City!

If the date you're interested in booking is not currently available, message me as I often have flexibility!

For your comfort and safety, I will also provide KN95 face masks & sanitiser and we will observe a 2M/6ft distance!

We start our adventure at our 115 year old renovated cottage, at the foot of Walsh's Mountains, where we will kick off with home made pastries/scones and wonderful fresh coffee/tea.
Your soda bread journey will kick off by baking traditional Irish soda bread to have with our home made lunch! This is a fully hands on experience and I will teach you tips to bake a perfect bread every time.

We will also prepare and bake our brown buttermilk soda bread with a deliciously nutty twist! While all of this is baking we will take a short walk through the beautiful countryside around our cottage and soak up the stunning views of the Suir River Valley.

We will return to the cottage for a delicious home cooked 2 course lunch & for any history buffs, there is also an option to visit a local ancient megalithic tomb said to be almost 6,000 years old and very much off the beaten track!

Guests will have use of our facilities in the cottage. We have rescue cats so consider this before booking if you have an allergy. You will need your own car as we do not provide transport!

I learned to cook at a very young age at my mother's knee, learning to bake traditional breads using time honoured recipes passed down through the generations of my family.
I attended my very first cookery course at age 12 and over the years have honed my craft. I have studied my passion at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, the Baking Academy of Ireland and the Blacklion Cookery school with renowned Chef Neven Maguire.
I am totally passionate about the joy that good quality home cooked comfort food can bring!
I also run a bespoke food catering business @Burdock&Bay from my custom commercial kitchen.

My younger sister took a day off work and it was apparent after about 2 minutes of meeting Sinéad ,it was well worth it. Sinéad was warm and friendly, an expert in her field but so relaxed and could teach in the loveliest way. We made fantastic breads ..I never thought I would ever say that I am not a baker. We had the loveliest chats, felt so at home in her beautiful house. I couldn't recommend this experience enough. Well done Sinéad and thank you.

Sinead was so wonderful and made the baking class a personal and once in a lifetime experience! She knew we were on our honeymoon and greeted us with heart shaped scones! She taught us to make the bread in between chatting about the local culture and connecting. At the end she took us to see the megalithic tomb near by and it was an amazing piece of history. We both truly adored Sinead and agreed that she was the best person we met on our trip!

Sinead is an absolute delight. To quote her, everyone comes as guests and leaves as friends. Her passion, her background, and her connection to a wonderful community and the warmth and love of the same is so apparent you get to know her and immediate love who she is as a person. You won't regret learning from Sinead. She connects you with so many facets of both her and her country's history that you're getting something beautifully unique.

My wife and I spent a lovely day with Sinead at her home. She was one of the kindest people we've ever met and made us feel like we were family. Regarding the actual baking/meals, she is incredibly knowledgeable about baking methods, science, and history which made this a very fun and informative day for me. Despite the fact that I'm an active and well read baker, I learned quite a lot about flour, dough, Irish baking culture, etc. However, this is so much more than simply a baking class... it's an immersion into authentic Irish culture with one of the most amazing people. My wife and I both concluded that this was the highlight of our amazing trip to Ireland and we talk about Sinead often - we've even been regularly making her soda bread and potato leek soup at home!

The experience with Sinead was the highlight of our 9-day trip to Ireland! In addition to being one of the nicest people we’ve ever met, she was an expert baker and true historian. Every part of the experience was informational yet fun! We love Sinead. We would easily recommend this experience to anyone!
