About me

Kanohkwahawi Ionkiats, wakskarewake, Akwesasne nonwe tkiteron, Kanien’kehaka niwakahontsioten. Hi everybody, my Mohawk name is Kanohkwahawi which translates to “She carries her ancestors”, but you can call me Lorna. I am bear clan, I live in Akwesasne, and I’m part of the Mohawk Nation. I attended the Akwesasne Freedom School, a mohawk immersion school whose curriculum is based on our seasonal/ceremonial calendar and our language. I graduated from SUNY Potsdam where I majored in Women’s and Gender Studies, and minored in Museum Studies, Native Studies, and Anthropology. I now work as a cultural educator and museum tech at the NNATC. I have also been a co-curator at SUNY Potsdam, and am currently working on a small exhibition at The Wild Center.
