What you'll do
Feel welcomed to my Garage Studio with french press coffee or tea, look around the cozy space to begin your journey into your own personal creative zone. You will soon begin forming and filing, soldering and shining, a wonderful new sterling and copper one-of-a-kind Spinner Ring creation from ordinary copper pipe, or sterling tubing. First, focus on making a well-fitting shank. I will show you how. Be prepared to take out some frustrations with the aid of a chasing hammer and ring anvil. It's all good. All that beautiful energy will create unique to you pattern on the surface of your base ring. Next, I will show you how to take your formed shank into a gorgeously lustrous finished piece of jewelry. The skills you learn about finishing will benefit all of your precious metal work. Switch gears to your floating spinner. You will use a torch and silver solder to solder the ring together from plain wire. Next you will fit the spinner, or spinners, to the shank with an age-old formula for optimal spin. Choose your difficulty level here by choosing an exacting, smoothly fitting ring, a hammered-to-fit ring, a wide winding wire spinner, or an eclectic wave spinner. Ultimately, you will join the two parts permanently into a single artistic piece that will be a treasure for generations!

Going elemental with precious metals and a torch is transformational! I have been a jewelry artist since 2006, and teaching jewelry classes in my garage studio since 2011. I strive to bring metalworking arts to our area through skill building classes, metal and jewelry events, and my library of compiled resources. I have sold my handmade jewelry around the world, and have been featured in our local print and broadcast media. I believe I owe my success to twinkle lights. Creativity loves good music and twinkle lights.

Where you'll be
You will be working in my street level garage studio. Think Man-cave meets twinkle lights in a grownup playground of power tools and creativity, with the ambience of summer camp, or a cookout. Dress for the weather. We'll leave the garage door open if possible. Safety is key, and kind environmental practices are a part of each step. My home is upstairs, so facilities are nearby.
