What you'll do

This pandemic has turned us upside down and inside out. Many of us are making new choices about how we want to live our lives. Living from our center is essential to creating an authentic life, full of meaning, purpose and belonging.

We all need practices to help us find our center, that place inside that holds our deepest wisdom about who we are and why we are here. Walking the labyrinth is one of those practices.

The ancient pattern of the labyrinth is based on the spirals and circles found everywhere in nature. A labyrinth is not a maze. There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. It has a single circuitous path that winds its way into the center. Symbolically as we walk, we find our way to our own center.

Your experience will begin with poetry that brings us into the present moment. I will stand as your witness as you step through the entrance and enter a ritual space. Once inside you will find walking the labyrinthian path like walking through life, with all its twists and turns, but rather than becoming lost or confused, in the labyrinth you are guaranteed to find the center. Walking with intention of receiving inner guidance is the gift.

You may stay in the center as long as you like, then use the same path to return, the entrance now becomes the exit. You will be welcomed with poetry as you exit and we will have a time for sharing and reflection.

I am the author of Finding the Wild Inside: Exploring Our Inner Landscape Through the Arts, Dreams, and Intuition (2019). You will receive a free copy of my book with your experience. I have a master's degree in Psychology and have worked as an expressive arts therapist since 1987. I am passionate about helping others find their inner truth and their own unique contribution to our world.

Labyrinth walking is one among many tools that I use to access that wild, intuitive part of ourselves that knows there is more to life than the one we are currently living. For many years, I've worked with people individually and led groups and workshops encouraging people to live from their creative center. I'd love to facilitate a labyrinth walk for you.

Where you'll be

The labyrinth sits in the meadow at For the Joy of It!, my home and Creative Retreat about 2 miles east of the town of Mendocino. It is surrounded by the forest, and is a private, peaceful and quiet place to reflect. The presence of the tall trees and the birds and animal life of the forest will support you in this experience.

My experience with Marilyn was magical, uplifting and reaffirming. The labyrinth is surrounded by huge redwoods with a gentle sea breeze providing a spiritual setting. Marilyn’s choice of poems for the experience couldn’t have been more perfect , and the lovingly arranged altar at the center touched me. Marilyn herself is very intuitive with pale blue eyes that are easy to dive into. I look forward to reading her book she gifts you at the end and highly recommend this trip into your inner self. Grateful and Blessed.

Magical experience in a meadow that feels like you are taken back in time. Marilyn is a wonderful role model who is living her life to the fullest, and it shows with this beautiful experience she created. My daughter and I loved the special touch of receiving the forest flower clipping, poems and books. Don’t miss this next time you visit Mendocino!

For those lucky enough to find Marilyn in the redwood forest clearing, consider your life changed, brightened, fortified. Marilyn has curated an experience into which she has poured the power of her life’s work. The labyrinth is not a trick and it guides and informs with each step. My dear friend booked this experience for us without telling me fully what I was about to do. Marilyn welcomed us and her presence carved out space for honesty and soul-baring. I immediately knew the experience would open my eyes to so much within. I’ve had experiences that have been similar over the years and thoroughly enjoy seeking out opportunities to turn inward and learn more about who I am and what the world around me is trying to communicate, but rarely have they stuck with me in such a deep way. Marilyn serves as the guide and observer but allows nature’s knowing to be the teacher. She has a special gift and I consider myself more than lucky to have been in her presence, experiencing her work. Go to the labyrinth and sink in to the beauty of all that Marilyn is offering. You will leave with a space to return to and remember when the challenges of life drown out its beauty.

Amazing experience! I went in to it with an open mind and left with a sense of healing and relief. I’ve never done one before but will definitely be doing more in SF and will definitely be back to visit Marilyn when my boyfriend and I are back in Mendocino! Thanks Marilyn for the guidance. We appreciate you and your warm heart. ❤️
