What you'll do
After being greeted on the farm, guests will be introduced to the goats while they are still in a fenced pasture. Once the goats are released, we will follow them in their meanderings while gently leading them to where we want to go (open meadows, woodlands, pond) depending on weather conditions and the state of the terrain. As we shepherd the goats, we will observe what they are choosing to eat and how they are interacting with each other. Guests will learn to listen to their bells to locate them and to call them. Moments of blissful silence will alternate with passionate conversation about what it takes to grow healthy food. The walk can take up to 2 hours depending on the weather and everybody's disposition.

I grew up in the High Pyrenees where the Commons still exist and the herds happily roam the range in the summer. A shepherd and dog often accompany the ruminants in order to guard, milk and steer them towards new pastures. While the Commons no longer exist here in the Catskills, at "Roam on the Range" our goats have access to 30 open acres and are free to access the diversity of forages required to meet their individual needs and tastes. They live the good life. Come live it with them and experience the shepherd way!

The goats travel across all sorts of terrain: up and downhill, through marshes and creeks, in open fields and shady woodlands. The walkabout is at a relaxed pace and will cover around a mile.
