What you'll do

This activity is great for both first time kayakers and experienced ones. The location we launch from has access to Lake Sammamish and the Sammamish River with lots of wild life to view depending on the season and time of day. We will meet at the Idylwood parking lot (or location of your choice within 5 mil) and I will drive you to the kayaks location so you don't have to struggle with parking or driving. Accessing the kayaks is done using the boat ramp making it easy to enter and exit without getting wet. After entering the water we will paddle out to the lake for a short distance, for new paddlers this is a time to learn some kayaking tips and get your bearings. We will then turn north to the Sammamish River/Slough and follow the river along beautiful Marymoor park where we will have the opportunity to spot blue herons, eagles, beavers, dear and river otters and many more or at least see very clear proof of their presence. Before going back to the lake we will stop for a lovely picnic or snack in a quite location. This is an amazingly relaxing and fun experience. For the best experience book your experience at dusk.

I got hooked on kayaking when a few years ago a friend took me kayaking on the Oregon coast for the Lumpy Waters Sea Kayak Symposium, I was thrilled to come back home to Redmond and learn there were so many great places to kayak right outside our door. Born in Israel, I was a hiking guide for many years in the desert trails of the Negev and Sinai. I moved her in 2000 and I just love all this green nature although I do miss the desert sometimes. I have been out on this route hundreds of times and it never gets old.

Where you'll be

From this great private access point you will be able to be in nature within minutes of leaving your car. The Sammamish river and slough are a wildlife and birdwatching gem flowing thru Marymoor park. From this great location you could paddle to the river or other side of the lake or go straight down the middle to get an amazing view of mount Rainer or go fishing. You can even row south to Idylwood park and take a break to swim.
