What you'll do

We will meet on the iconic Place Massena in the city center, and take a short bus ride to Cimiez. We will stop at the Regina, a beautiful Victorian residential building, where Matisse spent the last years of his life.
A short walk will take us to the Roman Arenas, where I will tell you about the history of Cemenelum, and surprising facts about the gladiator fights which used to take place there.
We will walk round the olive garden, home to an historic jazz festival where the greatest musicians have performed, from Louis Amstrong to Miles Davis or more recently Kanye West.
A short stairway will take us to the wonderful Cimiez Monastery, in my opinion the most beautiful church in Nice, which dates back from the 800. I will give you a detailed description of its art, architecture and history.
We will go to Matisse's grave in the nearby cemetery and to the the beautiful rose garden, with an incredible view overlooking the Castle Hill, where we will finish our tour.
Other things to note
I speak English French Spanish German Italian, basic Chinese and some Japanese, so not to worry if English is not your main language!

I am a professional musician and conductor and a graduate from the prestigious Sorbonne University in Paris. I grew up in Cimiez, and have a special connection to this unique place. I have studied history of art and have a special interest in roman and baroque architecture, in roman history and with the life and work of Henri Matisse, a former resident of Cimiez. The Olives garden used to be home to an iconic jazz festival, which I attended several times, and the rose garden hosts a chamber music festival in which I had the chance to perform.

We spent a very inspiring time with Thibault. He provided plenty of information and also included many interesting stories of his personal background. If you want to get to know one of the most beautiful residential areas of Nice and its outstanding buildings and museums, go for this discovery with Thibauld. Thank you very much for showing your home-town in so many colors, Thibauld.

Wonderful tour of an area of Nice not visited by tourists. Party of six America’s, Thibault spoke perfect English, took great pride in showing off his childhood neighborhood, easy to get around and saw some fantastic views of the city! Thibault was a gentleman, taking care to assist my elderly mother as we managed the walking, giving us history, antidotes, a real treat for our trip. We booked last minute, confirmed, and met easily. Highly recommended!

It was a great pleasure to visit Nice with Thibault. I've learned many interesting facts about the city, the region and their history. Moreover I've got several hints about what to see later on my own. Thibault is a very profesional guide and a nice person. I really recommend a walk with him, especially on your first/second day in Nice.
