What you'll do

***ALSO CHECK OUT MY NEW ORLEANS BYWATER FOOD AND ART TOUR*** Home to historic mansions, hauntingly beautiful cemeteries and giant oak trees, this district is the romance of New Orleans. Close to the St. Charles streetcar, we meet at Lafayette Cemetery to tour one of the oldest cemeteries in New Orleans. See the above-ground tombs New Orleans is known for and learn our unique traditions! (*** PLEASE NOTE: currently, the cemetery is closed for repairs- during this time, we'll still be able to see into the cemetery and discuss the history. I supplement the walking tour to see some of the mansions and historic homes the Garden District is known for).
Then it's on to the food at 3 stops- enjoy a favorite neighborhood eatery for a taste of our Italian & Creole roots. Next stop, Dat Dog for sausages like alligator, crawfish & duck (more traditional pork & vegan options available)! We finish with a Creole dessert: learn the history of chicory over cafe au lait and filled beignets! During walks between stops, learn our lingo, traditions, architecture and have history fun! All curated food, cocktails/beer, taxes & tip are included in your ticket so you can sit back and relax! Will accommodate allergies/dietary restrictions if told in advance. Menu above & food stops are subject to availability.

Other things to note:
Tour is all weather, wear comfy walking shoes & bring a face mask.

Excellent tour with the following to consider as a participant: 1. Michelle knows her stuff. She knows the area and she doesn’t drop folklore. She has strong knowledge of the area history. 2. Pushes you out of your culinary comfort zone. Would I order eggplant Napoleon? No. Was it worth it? 1000% 3. Suuuch good recommendations for food and wine restaurants. 4. This is a walking tour; bring water and good shoes. 5. Wear a mask. You’re walking into restaurants and shops where people don’t get paid enough to have a moral argument with you about the public policy. Don’t be a jerk.

Michelle is super knowledgeable about the Garden District and New Orleans as a whole. She had a great depth of knowledge about local history, different neighborhoods, and the different restaurants and food scenes in the area. Pro-tip: resist the urge to have anything more than a bagel for breakfast or you'll be sad by the time you get to Dat Dog!

Michelle gives a wonderful tour of the Garden District. It is so nice to get away from the touristy French Quarter and check out another area of New Orleans. She is very knowledgeable and the food was delicious. 5 stars!

The Garden district food tour was amazing! Michelle made us feel like we were part of the city. She has so much historical knowledge and you can feel in her interactions with locals that she is highly regarded. She was eager to accommodate our vegetarian requests. And gave us plenty of advice to go on for the rest of the stay. I highly recommend touring with Michelle. The tour was well worth the money. Thank you Michelle!
