What you'll do
The spine & heart of this tour is JK Rowling's biography, from ‘penniless single mother' to beloved author with a few more pennies & what we can learn from that. Allow upto 3½ hours over Quidditch season. We'll see how Rowling plumbed history & an Edinburgh Church-yard to make her world feel fully formed. We’ll visit the street said to be an inspiration for Diagon Alley. We'll see tons & tons of Edinburgh's old town, approaching 4 miles walking. Dive inside our national museum, dodge a 3 headed dog & lift the trapdoor on Rowling's mythological inspirations. What you'll learn: ◘ How to conjure inspiration. ◘ A tool to convert cliche to originality. ◘ A mindset for using failure like a piston. ◘ Intermediate wandwork - I didn't get my Hogwart's letter so I'm giving folk theirs. Novelists have said nice things about seeing themselves in Rowling’s writing practices. If you love Harry Potter, if it’s characters are the pillars of your mind & it’s lessons the bashed about glasses of your outlook, then this is the longest tour of Harry’s birthplace*. I’d love to meet you. Requires strong English. It's long, the tour expands & contextualises; if you have preteen boys who haven't read HP they're not going to be interested in this amount of detail, it's weak for whetting appetites & spoils the story. Msg me for other times/days. *apart from my 6hr tour available on request
I used to write screenplays, I've written a few historical tours. I have a popular-ish blog on Potter connections with Britain. Rowling is the world's most successful writer and I've always been interested in what Rowling has to say, looking for clues to write better and just to live more successfully. So I thought I'd pour that interest into a tour. It's since won awards, so something I'm not totally terrible at then. However I'm not an actor, I'm a failed screenwriter. As such I do not speak outstandingly clearly; my speech may be hard to understand if English is your second language, as you can see from some reviews. :/
Sherbert Lemons. Which character loved these?

Where you'll be
Edinburgh's royal mile is like a fish skeleton, we'll follow some of the ribs to treasures. A graveyard that allegedly inspired the scene of Voldemort's rebirth. The National Museum of Scotland, a fabulous museum with everything, Rowling took her daughter Jessica here. Sometimes we can go inside the supreme courts where Diane Rowling works, *ASK if this is desired*. If it rains we may escape to a cafe where Rowling wrote, for coffee & witchcraft
