What you'll do

**Request dates if not shown in availability**
Upon pickup we will dive into the rich history of Yellowknife by going just outside of the city to one of Yellowknife's first gold mines where we'll learn about what it was like to prospect for gold on the Canadian Shield and then to be a hardrock miner.

At the same time we will start to learn about how the townsite of Yellowknife started and grew along the shores of Great Slave Lake.

Moving forward through time we will then visit the Capitol Site where NWT politics take place. You will learn about how Yellowknife became the capital of the Northwest Territories over 50 years ago, and see how politics are carried out in present day.

After many stories of Yellowknife history and culture, we will look at how the city is a thriving metropolitan town within the remote Boreal Forest. With a food and coffee scene rivivaling anywhere in Canada.

Winding our way through "New Town" we will make our way into "Old Town", the original town site of Yellowknife where history, art, architecture and culture all clash.

Finally with a visit to N'Dilo a First Nation community with a history spanning back a lot farther than the city of Yellowknife.

I grew up in Yellowknife and am obsessed about knowing Yellowknife's past, present and future. I am a walking wealth of information on what is happening around town at any given time, how Yellowknife came to be and an all-around Yellowknife Encyclopedia. On top of all that I love sharing my knowledge of Yellowknife with anyone. I even write a popular local travel site called Yellowknife Online.

Worth your time and money, especially if done early in your stay in YK. Kyle is a real gentleman and is very knowledgeable about this area. He grew up here so his experiences are genuine and interesting.

We enjoyed this tour very much. Kyle is very friendly and welcoming. He has an inexhaustible knowledge of Yellowknife and is very happy to share any and all information with his guests. He also brought home-made jam cookies (yum!) and tea to share with us. Our only regret is that this tour was only 2 hours long. We could have spent the entire afternoon touring Yellowknife with Kyle.

Kyle is a wonderful guide with a warm personality. I travel often with my daughter who is now in the prime of adolescence and will not, if possible, listen to anything her Mom (me) says. Kyle was able to connect with her and actually drive home some key elements of living "life in the Knife", the history, how to cope and live with extreme cold weather and to inject some "coolness" (no pun intended) into the tour. You know you have a great guide when your teenager keeps on talking and texting her friends about our semi-private town tour. The hot tea and black currant home-made jam cookies snack topped it all off for a wonderful afternoon of insider knowledge! A must for first time travelers at the beginning of their Arctic journey!

Kyle was an exceptional tour guide who took us through all parts of Yellowknife and explained the history of the area. He also was able to answer questions we had with ease and tailored his stories to our interests. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting or new to Yellowknife.
