What you'll do

About 25 minutes east of North Bay, this 3 hour adventure introduces participants to the basics including safety requirements, some tips on style and simple strokes to get you moving (content based upon Paddle Canada Standards). We use high quality 14-17 foot kayaks and canoes of reputable brands to make sure you're experience is memorable and trouble free.

Take your new skills on a paddle along a section of the Mattawa River used by voyageurs such as Samuel De Champlain in the 1600's in their quest for passage to the orient. This section of the river offers a safe place to practice paddling with little current and spectacular views. We will paddle below the Talon Chutes through a small gorge created by an ancient geological fault in which the river now flows.

Occasionally, Shockwaves will use other team members as lead or assistant guides who are experienced in the area.

Other interesting areas are available to run this clinic on Trout Lake and Lake Nipissing, all within 30 min drive from our meeting spot.
Other things to note
We go rain or shine (clinic may be cancelled with a full refund for extreme weather).

I am excited to offer participants personalized opportunities to experience paddling around North Bay, ON. I am a Paddle Canada certified instructor (sea kayak) as well as a Wilderness First Responder Instructor and enthusiastic about both topics. We will primarily use kayaks but canoes are available too. Check out Shockwaves Paddle and First Aid on Facebook to see some of my course offerings or take a look at www.shockwaves.ca. Occasionally, I do have a team member host this event, they have been selected by myself for their skills and commitment to guiding events like this.

Exceptional experience! Bryce knows the area like the back of his hand so we were able to go places only a local would know. And he’s safety conscious which is nice. Perfect kayak experience for any level. Book Now!

My husband and I booked Sept. 29/18 and had a fantastic time in Pimisi Bay with Bryce!! I had never kayaked before and appreciated the time at the beginning of the clinic to learn some basics and really get comfortable with my boat. Bryce provided very high end equipment, supplies and even snacks - we felt safe and prepared for anything! The waterfalls and colourful views on our trip were absolutely beautiful, and the photos that Bryce provided for us after the experience was a super added bonus!! Bryce was very knowledgeable of the area, is a certified Paddle Canada instructor, and was an excellent guide. We can’t say enough about Bryce and how much we loved our trip - we will definitely be booking again next summer and hoping to explore other locations!!

We took a gamble and booked Bryce when we saw his ad on our Cabin rental's Air BNB page. We're so glad we did! We had an absolute blast paddling the Mattawa River with Bryce. He went above and beyond to make our experience a great one. The morning started off with Bryce taking care to show us how to paddle safely and effectively, then we paddled for fun down the river, through a canyon, to a waterfall! We felt like we were in another world - it was absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend if you are in the area!
