What you'll do

We'll be taking an insider's tour of this beautiful neighborhood, with a guide who knows the best spots for photos, learning history, and even shopping after your tour! This tour ends on the famed Magazine Street, where you can find a host of very unique shops and boutiques.

But first, your distinctive tour of the neighborhood like no one else can give you:

New Orleans’ Garden District is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in the nation, next to it is bustling Magazine Street.

If you’re looking to explore outside of the French Quarter area, and see how our people live and have lived, this excursion is perfect for you or your group.

After that, a stop in Lafayette Cemetery, the oldest city-owned cemetery. You’ll learn the burial practices and traditions that make our cemeteries unique. (NOTE: Lafayette Cemetery will be closed on Monday 9/9/19 until further notice, so we will not visit the cemetery while closed.)

The Garden District was founded in 1832, between St. Charles Avenue, First Street, Magazine Street and Toledano Street. Originally its own city, it was annexed by New Orleans in 1852. You’ll learn more about this and other historic facts as you see the neighborhood’s gorgeous mansions and their notable large, opulent lawns.
Other things to note
We like guests to be there 15 minutes before we start
The cemetery is closed for all federal holidays and the week before Mardi Gras plus the day after.

Monique Hamilton adores the Garden District of New Orleans for its unique architecture and history. As well, she is an expert in our cemetery customs- which she loves sharing with others. And it doesn't hurt that she knows where quite a few famous people live. Don't worry, we won't bother them.

As someone who lives a block from the Garden District, she can give an insider's tour unlike any other. Whatever your tastes are, she'll lead you along the right path- even after the tour ends.

The area is worth exploring. So interesting and beautiful. The tour guide I had was not as engaging as other tour guides I have had, but I'd take a chance and do it!

The tour was wonderful, informative, and very fun. We were shown over a dozen houses, each with their own story. The tour informed us about the history of the Garden District, the trends in architecture, and shown details about each property that we would have missed without the guide’s knowledge. We would recommend this tour to anyone.

Lana was our host and she was lovely! She was full of stories about the beautiful Garden District and was able to weave her personal experience as a NOLA native with the fascinating history of the region. The tour pace was leisurely and we were able to ask questions and grab some great photos to our hearts' content. Lana also gave us an excellent restaurant recommendation that was spot on for a delicious post-tour lunch.

This was a fun and laidback experience! I learned SO much during this tour and saw some beautiful homes. Monique tells you the truth behind the myths when you ask, too, which was super fun and informative.
