What you'll do

Lake Nipissing offers some of the best sunsets around looking west across to the French River from North Bay. Primarily using kayaks, we will start with a short clinic on paddling safety and basic strokes to get you moving. All skills instruction is based on Paddle Canada Standards and are delivered so that those with some paddling experience and newcomers can both benefit. After some instruction, we will practice what you have learned on a short paddle to watch the amazing sunset on a small island just off shore. The short paddle back will be by moonlight, but don’t worry, headlamps and lighting will ensure a safe and trouble free paddle back to our meeting spot. This experience offers both a unique perspective on the traditional sunset as well as some professional instruction on a fantastic recreational past time.
Other things to note
Participants must be comfortable swimming 50 m with a PFD.

Winds can get high on Lake Nipissing, if necessary, we may switch to Elks Beach on Highway 17 and paddle on Trout Lake. You will be notified well in advance in the event we change locations.

My goal is to put together an interesting and memorable adventure for you, let me take care of the planning, logistics and safety of your outing. You can see some of my other adventures and courses on the web at Shockwaves Paddle and First Aid. Occasionally, Shockwaves will use other team members as lead or assistant guides who are experienced in the area.

Brad was an amazing guide with Kevin alongside us to help out and take photos! This experience was great! We got to learn a lot about more advanced kayaking and some facts about the areas around Lake Nippissing. As well as some advice on things to do around the are, heavy emphasis on winter ice fishing on the lake. We asked a lot of questions and learned a lot from their experiences.

Brad was a really good guide on this trip. He was friendly, helpful, he knew his stuff, told us some interesting stories about the area and islands. And even told us some personal things about his previous trips. He was mindful of our safety and very patient.
