What you'll do

If you want to explore, learn, eat, drink, meet real people of the heartlands (the not crazy, not rich Asians), this tour is for you!

Public housing (also known as HDB) estates is where more than 80% of the population live in Singapore. In this tour, we will visit three different types of public housing estates in Singapore and learn the role it plays in SIngapore's secret to multiculturalism :

(1) EVERTON
We will visit Everton estate for the first stop. This is one of the earliest types of public housing. We will stop at a local cafe to try Singaporean coffee/tea. We will also visit some traditional stores.

(2) CANTONMENT
We will check out the Cantonment Estate, explore the architecture philosophy and how public housing evolved through the years.

(3) PINNACLE
The last stop is one of the latest public housing project, Pinnacle@Duxton. Explore the transformation of the role of public housing in Singapore. Optional : It is possible to go up to the 50th storey and take in the amazing evening skyline view of the city ($6 fee not inclusive)

Along the way, we will visit the local market, community club and playground.

*Please note this walk has a minimum of 2 to start. Please contact if you are a solo traveler*

Hi! I'm P S, born and raised in Singapore. I have been living and working in the neighborhood for 15 years and a a volunteer with the local community club. I'm also a 100% fan of the city and a licensed local guide! Spending some time abroad has also made me more curious about Singapore.

You will see Singapore through my eyes, things that I like in a genuine, funny and relaxed way.

Where you'll be

Just south of Chinatown, the Tanjong Pagar district is a residential neighborhood where traditional shops co-exist side by side with modern businesses. Charming architecture in the historic shophouses with the tall skyscrapers of the commercial district at the backdrop form a delightful contrast to the public housing of the area. And oh, its one of Timeout's top 50 coolest neighbourhoods in the world.

This walk is a great way to experience the development of HDB housing in Singapore. P.S. is a great host and a very good, enthusiastic storyteller! And she a great surprise for you in store! We enjoyed it all!

This tour was wonderful! I learned a lot about how Singaporeans live (80% live in Singapore public housing). PS was ready to answer any question I had - she clearly has a depth of knowledge in the topic and a genuine interest in the topic on multiple levels. It was also a real experience - in addition to explaining the information, PS we got to experience how the local community is built around the complexes/estates. I loved meeting the other participants as well. Based on this tour, I would be interested in other experiences by PS too.

This was my second tour with PS and she really brought to life a fascinating aspect of Singapore- the life and architecture of public housing. PS gave a great overview of the thought that went into the urban planning, and what life in public housing is like. We explored parts of Singapore that I likely wouldn’t have noticed or understood on my own. PS is a warm and engaging storyteller. I highly recommend her tours because they will show you a side of Singapore you would likely bypass if you stick to the Crazy rich Asians sights ;) .

We had a great afternoon with PS- she was able to accommodate our request to shift the timing of the session to suit us, as well as ensure that the walk was appropriate for our 6 and 8 year old children. We started at a local coffee shop and learned how to order local coffee- and the myriad of variations of the same! Highly recommended.

P S was an enthusiastic host who shared the local knowledge and insight into the community formation, urban planning and housing development evolution over the decades in Singapore. Whenever I talked with friends about my trip to Singapore, I couldn't help but told them a few things I learned or experienced from this tour. After the tour, P S was also very kind to message me some places I could visit to learn more about the unique aspects of the city!
