What you'll do
Using traditional job printing techniques and our collection of wood type and antique image blocks, we will help you to set type and print a poster edition on 1960s Vandercook presses. Backgrounds will be printed from your chosen colors or gradients and your type will be overprinted in a contrasting tone for optimal legibility. All participants will leave with 10 prints of their own edition and are free to swap with other participants if they wish. We'll have some bottled water and food brought over from our friendly neighbors at Best Pizza. Bring some beer or wine if you'd like to and we'll keep it cold for you in the studio fridge.
For the last twelve years, I have run The Arm, a public access letterpress studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I come from a family of letterpress printers going back four generations and I did my apprenticeship in Baltimore in the late '90s. I have printed projects for clients like Leica, Vans and Lucky Brand and have been involved with teaching letterpress at Cooper Union since 2007.
