What you'll do
I will take you to the heart of the Ventana Wilderness of Big Sur. We will explore the area of Cone Peak. A mile high granite mountain a little more than three miles from the Pacific Ocean . Many rare and disjunct species of plant and animals reside here. We will discuss the natural and human history of the area . Be prepared to hike 15 miles. this means sturdy hiking boots and a day pack. Bring a sack lunch and snacks along the way. We will summit the mountain and rest there on the old fire lookout. 360 degree views Big Sur will blow you away! These are places very few people ever get to see . I'll provide transportation from Cambria. We will experience many photo ops along the way . If time permits, I will take you to a sacred albino redwood tree . Known only to a limited number of people for good reason. I'm told it's one of 52 in the world. They are typically small, growing out of the base of a mother tree . this one is 20 plus feet high with needles like white vinyl . All in all, a day in Big Sur to remember.
I'm a Central California native living in Cambria, at the Southern gateway to Big Sur. The Ventana Wilderness is my sanctuary. My earliest childhood memories are of warm summer days frolicking in the Big Sur river under the canopy of redwood trees native to this rare environment along Pacific Coast Highway 1. Having hiked and backpacked much of the area, I want to share the experience with you . Ansel Adams retired to Carmel Highlands claiming that Big Sur must become a National Park like Yosemite . My mission is to take you to places that few ever see there .
