What you'll do
We'll explore my favorite location in the Bay Area, Rodeo Beach, a wide sandy expanse that sits between Rodeo Lagoon and Rodeo Cove. This spot is ripe with natural fauna: shorebirds such as the double-crested cormorant, the elegant egret, and the threatened brown pelican. Our journey will start in the cove at low tide. After seeing the pillow lava lining the bay, we will circle the lush lagoon, finding native plants and flowers along the way. We'll climb adjacent hills to see the waves of the Pacific Ocean crash over rock sculptures, and I'll share insights into the ancient geology that cradles the beach as well as life on the shoreline. We'll end with a locally sourced picnic on the beach.

I feel blessed to live in California, given my passion for the diverse marine and forest ecosystems here. I'm excited to share the natural wonders of one of the world's most stunning and biologically diverse ecosystems.
